I'm carrying 26#'s, between trim weights and the integrated pockets on my TPII. If I don't attach the c-strap, when I go inverted, all that lead tends to shift the BC down ( or, since I'm inverted, is it up ! ). With the strap, all stays in place as it should.

And I didn't stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night, but - I do dive a backplate and wings. Just singles, but everything from an AL80 to a Faber LP95.

I like my crotch strap. I don't notice when it's there. It doesn't bother me. It keeps everything in place - I can go inverted (head down) and nothing slides on me...

I have just a crappy 1" Dive Rite crotch strap, but I don't like it because it has a Fastex buckle and I don't like Fastex buckles. I might make a 2" one out of seatbelt webbing when I get around to it someday.

Is there a compelling reason to leave the croth strap on? About the only benefit I get from it is on the surface. Apart from that, and the extra d-rings, I see no benefit at all, so I'll probably take mine off.

Like a 1970's liberated woman going braless, I think I'm going strapless, unpersuaded by the societal pressures of DIR dogma.

While not diving DIR, I've been diving wings and backplate since 1978. I ADDED a crotch strap a few years ago after a rough ride on the surface waiting (about 20 minutes) for the boat to pick me up. Frankly, I decided that if I couldn't float in the water comfortably for 20 minutes, what would I do for several or more hours should the occasion arise?

I'll freely admit my waistline has grown throughout the years and this certainly contributed to the problem I experienced.

You decide for yourself.

The only time I notice the crotch strap is when I put it on,, it's not a natural thing and thus feels strang on land... but once I'm in the water I don't even notice it ...

My wife hated it! So she went for a Transpac II with out the CS, and were both happy.

It give you the confidence to dive how you like and feel assured that the tank wond move around and be a danger to you.

But each to their own, it works for me but not my wife.

The crotch strap has nothing to do with DIR. The system works better if the strap is used. Of course, you have to be smart enough to adjust it.
Yet another profound reply from MechDiver, my personal troll.

The type of diving we do may be a little different than some of you. BTW, I've done about 60 dives in this BP/Wing with the crotch strap, so I've grown pretty familiar to it. I like the d-ring in front and rear. I attach my stringer to the front, and a lift bag to the rear one.

We hand our fish and BC up to the boat on the Gag Reflex. It's a little bit of a nuisance with the crotch strap and the weight belt. The fact that you can't dump your weights is not real cool either.

As for needing it for long period on the surface, I would just lay back on mine like a recliner and be fine. My buddy has a BP/Wings set-up and used his crotch strap for exactly two dives. 1000 dives later he has never put it back on.

Why can't you dump your weights?

The c-strap should be under the weight belt. Yeah, a little more trouble to remove a BC, but I don't think BC removal is an emergency action, as a weight dump may have to be.

Chose your poison. The one thing I am not particularly fond of with a BP/Wing set-up is the need to use a weight-belt. I could use the weight pockets now sold by Halcyon, but that would clutter up space I like for d-rings and other gear. Some feel that by putting the croth strap over the weights will catch a belt that unexpectantly falls off during a dive. I could get my belt off in pretty good shape even with it under the strap.

No, not a big deal either way. Just an observation. I don't personally see a big benefit to the crotch strap when diving a single HP 120.

Genesis... would your girlfriend mind testing my equipment? It hasn't been serviced in several years?

I like the crotch strap, it makes the rig fit better.

If the crotch strap is really bothering you, then it's probably too tight.

You shouldn't even be aware that it is there.
