The following is the transcript of an ACTUAL radio conversation in
October in 1995, between a US Navy ship and The British authorities, near the coast off England. It was released by the MoD.

BRITISH : Please divert your course 15 degrees to the South, to Avoid collision.

U.S.NAVY : Recommend you divert YOUR course 15 degrees to the North to avoid a collision.

BRITISH : Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collision.

U.S.NAVY : This is the Captain of US Navy ship. I say again, YOUR
course.

BRITISH : Negative. I say again. You will have to divert your course.

U.S.NAVY : THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS LINCOLN. THE 2ND LARGEST SHIP IN THE UNITED STATES'ATLANTIC FLEET. WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY 3 DESTROYERS, 3 CRUISERS AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS. I DEMAND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR COURSE 15 DEGREES NORTH. THAT'S 15 DEGREES NORTH, OR MEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP.

BRITISH : We are a lighthouse, your call!.

Right. That was way back in '95, before the invention of radar and GPS.

That one's been out there for years...probably decades.

I heard that in grade school...it is still humorous though.

radar has been around since the second world war, we invented it!

didnt we use gps guided weapons in the last gulf war in 91?

An Englishman who doesn't recognize irony? You're letting your side down, Clive.

Or are you escalating the irony?
