Get back to where you once belonged...
After eight weeks in foot rehab I finally made it back in the water this morning. I hobbled over the cobble into the flat water at Marineland and it was like the good old days.

My old friends came out to greet me.

Well, the undersea friends did. I dropped near the statue and found it had capsized. It was laying in a pile of silt, so it must have been horizontal all week. I placed it back in its perch and removed the rock and dead Gorgonian from the bucket, then headed around the pinnacles, visiting the rockfish and nudibranchs that make diving the Point so enjoyable.
Hopkin's Rose, Hermissendas and Yellow-edged Cadlinas were laying eggs as if preparing for Easter. I stayed too long at the pinnacles, so I didn't have time for much photography.
I swam past the large batray that always seems to be in the same spot, fed Abby and then made my way back to the beach.
Walking out of the water was a bit painful, especially after stepping on an uneven rock. I made it into six inches of water before getting hurt.

Nice pics as always Phil...let us know how the foot feels tommarow. I know Frank wanted to do do longpoint today, but laziness got the best of me today so we decided to stick with the comfy 120 reef. We saw more yellow dorids than you would want to see, even a couple side by side (I don't know what they were doing) a lot of rockfish as always. It was a great dive with 15 foot vis.

It was one of those days that make you feel good to be alive...I love diving Marineland.

Welcome back dude, ice that foot.

Charlie

Those are some some great shots Phil! I thought you said you didn't get any good ones? Next time I'll have to skip the 120 and head to the point with you. I thought I got some decent shots today, but my camera is messing me with again. For the second dive in a row more then half of my pictures and videos have been erased. Just another omen telling me its time to upgrade.

Timing is everything. If you had arrived five minutes earlier you would have dived with Shawna and Trichelle. :grouphug:

Obviously, the nudis must have missed your presence because they all came out to greet you.

After my bunion surgery, my podiatrist recommended walking barefoot on sand to improve flexibility. It's a good excuse to take long walks on the beach at the least. I think it took my about 8-9 weeks to get back into the water, partly from being out of shape. I had to borrow a bootie from my boyfriend, though, until the foot got back closer to its normal size. How does the foot look?

It seems fine now, but it gets swollen every now and then. I walked on the beach at Redondo last week and it hurt a lot the next day. I did find a new shell for Merry, though. :)

Hi Phil,

Glad to see you got back in the water & the foot is getting better. Stay away from that dangerous wagon.

John

Great to "see" you back in the water, Phil. I too returned yesterday after what essentially was a three month absence. Did two dives on the wreck of the squid seiner Infidel and got 13 minutes of horrible video that I don't dare post here or anywhere else!

Hope you and Merry have some great dives planned for the near future.
