During my OW checkout dive at Coast Guard Pier at Monetery Bay, most people didn't bother locking up their stuff. They just left stuff sitting out or in back of their trucks. I was a little paranoid and disconnected my computer whenever we left the BC/tank/reg unattended. I figured that if they were to steal my BC/tank/reg, that's a lot of weight to carry. However, the computer (the most expensive part) was just a quick disconnect. Also - when we were in the water diving, all of our stuff were in our SUV and the SUV was locked. I felt like I was the only one paranoid. :P Unfortunately, it only takes one bad apple to ruin the day.

Sorry to hear that ScubaSteph. Some people have no character. You would think that you can trust your dive gear with other divers, but I guess sometimes just because they are divers do not mean they care about anyone.

Can you say it was stolen from your car? You might get some coverage.
One of our NorCal divers (D O H), had his gear stolen from his garage, I think his insurance covered it.

Unfortunately, most auto insurance doesn't cover any contents... or if it does, it's very limited.... The guy who had the stuff stolen out of his car when it was in his garage most likely got covered by homeowner's insurance.

I just had my car and all of my cameras (I'm a photographer) stolen less than two months ago.... I only had liability, and thought that because of the way I kept my gear out of site I was safe.... I never counted on some crackhead getting lucky...

The police told me he probably just knew how to steal a Honda.... so he did...

The scumbag was caught... known drug user... but the car was set on fire.... we recovered some of the camera gear... some of my tools... but many things that I had in the car are gone forever.

It really angers me that some people feel they have a right to anything they want. This guy wanted to get high... so he stole my car. Like this guy... he says it's 'his job', how he makes his living.... http://www.ebaumsworld.com/2006/07/carthieframpage.html
Theives have no concept... or don't care about... the fact that the items owned by other people are earned... worked hard for.... they just don't care.

I'm a single father... trying to make ends meet... and this guy screwed my finances.. I had to put off AOW training...... Hell, I could barely make rent after buying a new car..... I haven't had a dive since my stuff was stolen.... Luckily the only dive gear in the car was my weight inserts for my BCD.

The punk stole my car... and my tools of employment.

I wish we could get through to the crackheads... thieves.... guess we never will... they feel we owe them because we have more than them I guess....:banghead:

That Sucks!!!

I have been to the Grotto my self a few times and left my stuff out on the tables or truck each time(not going to now). I am sorry it happened to you, hopefully it doesn't ruin your opinon of diving, as most folks I have met are friendly and trustworthy.

But like anything there are exceptions to the rule!

hope you can track it down, if not happy shopping for the new one!

I did leave my weight belt in Pt Lobos one time. We went to dive the next day and it was missing. I went to borrow one from a dive center and they said to call Lobos to see if someone had turned it in. I did and low and behold someone did turn it in. For those bad apples out there, there are some good ones too. It was just a weight belt, but still. Pretty nice of the person to turn it in.

Sorry to hear you were put in a jam:shakehead !

That link is sick! It really makes me angry that you can work hard and respect others, but some punk@** like that thinks he is entitled to it, and says its his "job". I'd like to shoot people like that...

Yeah... that video really peeved me.... especially since I found it so soon after my car....

I'll say this... If I caught him, I might administer 'lead therapy'.

Anyway, I was torn if I wanted to link to it. I didn't want to immortalize this guy... but I felt it was important to show. So what makes these guys think they can just do this?

I had someone break into my car to steal a mask and some fins. Luckily they were not my primary ones just backup cheapo's but they also took my cb radio :censored: but what was I to do? I was fishing :eyebrow:
