The registry only works if people use it. Apparently nobody is using Stolenscubagear.com because there are only 70 records and the last one was March 31, 2004. It's a good idea. Maybe there should be a registry on Scubaboard.:coffee:

I feel so outdated... I bet scuba board could have a much more successful database... more traffic!

hmm sounds like a good use of the large dive knives. Learn to stick it in a tree at 30 paces and voila...instant theft deterent. Just kidding. Sorry for your loss in gear. Hopefully Karma will help in that if they use it they'll find some bad luck and get stuck.

I've never heard of this site before. Maybe if we start printing the t shirts.

Wow. I feel like an idiot. I never even thought about my stuff getting stolen!

My one dive where I left my gear unattended was in Cozumel. Now- the guys at Papa Hog's did lock the gear locker up at night and they kept an eye on who was around... but suppose one of the other divers are a wild card new hire had sticky fingers? None of my stuff is worth stealing (I buy used, old and unexciting!)... but it's still SOMETHING... next time I will take my smelly stuff to my room and let it leak all over the floor instead of molding in the cubby hole!

At Gilboa Quarry, someone could steal my extras. I usually have an extra pair of gloves and my beanie in my bag. Or they could steal my bag. But I leave most things at home and leave money locked in the car.

That's not an invitation, btw...

If you advertise that you have something of value on board or give someone the opportunity to take it, it’s gone.

Unfortunately as time goes on we are growing a bigger more organized crop of thieves. Some are to lazy to work, some think the world owes them a living, some steal to support a drug habit and some just think you don’t need it.

But there is justice in this world. Something that has happened several times gets me laughing so hard I almost whiz my britches. It’s sad, sick, gross but funny when you think about it.

Thieves will break into a residence or something and find a powder they think will make them rich. Then they either sell it or better yet snort or inject it. Later they find a tag inside identifying the person that power came from. I have never seen gray drugs. :D

Your never 100% safe but each individual can make it harder for thieves to walk off with your property. A good starter is to not have dive flags on your vehicle. That is a good advertisement that you have, or may have some good expensive hard to trace goodies on board. Also keep everything out of site.

I had it happen to me last year.

Sorry you are having to go through it.

If you don't recover any of it, look at it this way...

You get to buy new gear!

Update. Just went outside with an old dive knife and threw it at tree. It stuck on first try....only problem it's about 2 feet out of reach with the sun setting. Figured everyone would get a kick out of it. Had to come in to get the ladder anyways.

What a Bunch of freaking losers.....

If I saw someone stealing scuba gear...That SOB would have two broken hands!

sorry about your gear, that really sucks :(

I take one of those bike cables and loop it in a way that would make it not worth to steel.
