Has anyone had any gear stolen?

When I went to Blue Grotto with my dad, and someone stole my brand new escape bc. It also had my gloves in my pocket. I think its pathetic for someone to steal from others like that. Scuba gear has a great cash back even used, so thats why its so common. Someone stooped pretty low, to steal a 16 year olds bc. You would think that you could trust other divers, obviously thats not the case.

Someone stole thousands of dollars worth of Tech gear a week or two ago at Ginnie. People (thieves) know this stuff is worth money. They are just waiting for opportunities.

Don't leave gear unattended. About the only thing I leave unattended at the dive site is my towel. Everything else goes in the car.

Oh, and I seriously doubt these people are actually divers. Though at Blue Grotto, it's kinda tough. At Ginnie, well, you've been there.

Can you say it was stolen from your car? You might get some coverage.
One of our NorCal divers (D O H), had his gear stolen from his garage, I think his insurance covered it.

I've had computer stuff stolen.. stuff that was ordered for a client, paid for by a client. It totally screwed me up with the job as I was to be putting together an Xmas present and suddenly I had to finance the loss myself because it was about $30 less than my deductable for biz insurance.

I haven't had dive gear go MIA yet.. I have my name, contact info, etc, scribed into the gear in a way that you'd have to mess stuff up pretty bad to get identifying marks off. Much anguish to those who try to pawn gear they pilfer from me!

in addition to the thousands of bucks of tech gear stolen at Ginnie, there is another thread on Decostop about more stolen gear at Ginnie, this time DIN plugs. (stainless steel).

At Vortex this past march, a co-diver left his wetsuit and hood outside the dorm type rooming they have there so it would dry. Someone stole it.

It ended up the wetsuit was accidentally picked up by another diver thinking it was his and returned it by contacting Vortex to find the missing own, so it really wasn't stealing, but it felt like it at the time it was missing to the diver who lost it.

Someone else however did steal his hood that was drying and they didn't return it.

Once I accidently took somebody elses gloves. I felt horrible and took them to the dive shop that chartered the boat. Unfortunately I dont think your incident was accidental. Guard your gear like your taking luggage on a international flight (keep it with you at all times). Never walk away from something you cant afford to lose. Sadly you just cant trust people anymore. Divers have stuff stolen all the time here in CA. See this as an opportunity to look into a BP/W they rock!
