I learned something not too long ago about alligators. The family was biking along the eastern perimeter of Canaveral National Seashore by the canal. I had stopped and my 1 1/2 year old son started crying in his carrier on the back of the bike. A large alligator suddenly launched into the water and started swimming towards us at speed from the opposite bank. I rode on a bit wiser as to some of the motivations of alligators. I would add to barking dogs, crying babies can bring gators in. If you have young kids with you with alligators around, it is something to think about. In Florida, this covers a lot of area as they can be quite common, even in suburban areas.
