Garvin hook / clip use

Hello:

I am setting up a jon line. It has a Garvin hook / clip on the end. It does not seem apparent to me on how this can be attached to a reel line. I believe it is suppose to perform the same function as a prussic knot. Can anyone give me insight to this? Thanks.

It's not meant to be used with a reel line. Use is intended for use on larger diameters like mooring lines.
