I don't know. I'm not the one that was talking about needing to tap the screen during a dive to see other stuff.

I think that was just to view secondary screens like the compass. But it does look like no matter how much you tap it will never show surfgf

I would say maybe in an update but garmin seems to leave those kind of updates for a new version.

I have found with other devices that use taps and shakes for U/I that they tend to fail to work as expected over time. I suspect due to accelerometer calibration drift.

They have made huge leaps on accelerometers and gyros over the last few years. I havent noticed any decline in my mk1. Mine is still sensitive enough that if I have another dive computer next to it, that it will occasionally switch screens when deploying my smb.

I can confirm that you can add a heading to the main data layout. I subbed it in for Temp. Not sure about about heading hints - I would have to fiddle more. Kinda like what was described wrt Teric.

Im glad they finally gave custom fields. Direction is much more useful than temp.

Question about customizing screens for those of you lucky enough to have one.

On the main dive screen, can you set one of the "big" lines to show tank pressure and gas time remaining? Having that on one line and then depth and NDL on the "big" line underneath would be perfect. Could then put compass heading in the "small" top line and dive time in the bottom one?

Any chances that the transmitter i currently have will work with the mk2i? I have the generic sheerwater and oceanic the m1h9 or whatever its called.

1500 for a computer and another 400 for a transmitter. Is just a little out of my price range.

But worth it if it is truly a world of difference from a sheerwater teric

Found my answer. No you need a new transmitter which superior to any transmitter out there now.

I saw this video today actually.

I'm using an oceanic atom 3. I have connection issues but nothing to write home about.

I am looking to upgrade in the next 3 to 6 months.

Just seems like I can pay 2k for the garmin mk2i and have a dive ckmputer that also functions as smart watch. Along with easy to change watch bands. I prefer a metal watch band for everyday use.

Or I can just get sheerwater teric for about 1k and get a very good dive computer. That can also be used every day.

Looks like I'll wait for the transmitter to get used by more people and see some real world reviews. Salt water and silted water might impact overall profromance of the transmitter. But only time will tell.

So I'm going to wait for more reviews on the garmin transmitter before investing.

Many. But you can do 5 at a time... My tank, wife's tank, and eventually the two boy's tanks...
But I would like more sonar functions. Especially simple messaging, networked vital signs.

Yes but many....nay .... most ....the max distance will be from their own back. Sure it can do 5 tx's but most wont spend 2 grand for the max capability for family monitoring. Now that's not to say I wouldn't buy a few..

Yes other functionality is where they need to up their game if they want wide adoption.
Garmins underwater vital signs are cool but lacking. Personally I would like to see location over text/ vital signs being introduced.

None of the Garmin Dive stuff is exposed in their SDK. As far as I can tell, the dive functionality is siloed off from the smart watch stuff entirely to prevent any kind of interference. Apps can't even get the number of dives you've been on so far!
