ClayJar:
If it's a really long dive (the 2:47 ScubUNO dive we did comes to mind), a Capri Sun is actually not a bad idea. It's a flexible packet-and-straw drink that stows quite well and doesn't have the problems a bottle would have, and it's *cheap*. :D

Are you suggesting taking a Capri Sun on the dive... and drinking it under water?

When I get the dry, gooey mouth, I remove reg, spit into the water, and replace reg. All better. Just my fix.

CBulla:
I have pondered a camel back or its variant for dives. Someone else in the Conch crew (scuba_jenny, but we wont mention her name) said to fill it rum and coke!
COKE??? It's a diuretic and you will end up peeing in your wetsuit. Don't dilute good rum!!!

You could buy a sherwood Oasis. I have one, works like a charm.

From what I understand, either the bio-filter or a full face mask will help. I'll try the bio-filter first next year, and will then migrate to a Neptue full face mask about mid season - not because of a "dry" mouth and larnyx, but because I can add underwater 2-way communications (Sweet!).

If you notice before we dive, i drink something. usually water. That has seemed to help me a bit.
Also as mentioned above about being new. Im sure thats it too. We are always rushing around zipping thru stuff and should problably take our time more.

I've heard of people doing just that. I haven't, myself, as I'm quite hydrated, indeed, when I dive.

I dive with a Neptune Nira II and Sherwood Maximus.... b4 the full mask, never had dry mouth probs, now diving full face, I'll never go back, no jaw fatigue, com's are possible etc... nice and warm for cold water..
