The wreck in the video with the deeper blues is 24 to 32 meters...
You also have to consider that with custom white balance you can't go past 9900K whilst with a filter you can
I have worked out a quicker way to set custom white balance with the sony with 3 key strokes but most times it works better in auto so I don't bother doing it anymore

I think no button press is better than one button press LOL

"The G16 is basic in video and really can only do close focus wide angle with two strobes with the inon lenses"

How do you know this with the two strobes? I've nowhere found this.

Close focus wide angle requires a semi fish eye lens the only one that works with this camera is the Inon UWL-S100 ZM80 with dome

This lens requires the smallest aperture to be used f/8 so no video possible as it will come pitch black

With a single strobe at wide angle pictures you will need guide number 24 which no strobe has at 110+ degree, so you need two if you want to have good results

All good shots I have seen with this lens were with two strobes starting from the Inon gallery on flickr

This is the rig they have used

The same is true for the RX100 that needs small apertures as well for that type of shot, however you can easily shoot at wide aperture with natural light with the Sony camera, you can't do that with the G as the picture comes blurred

This is the note on the inon site
*Since combined camera is set to focal length approx.80mm (35mm film equivalent) for optimum optical performance, use small aperture setting.

I had a G16 for a short time to play with, and it has two custom modes to store your favorite setting. I'm not sure if the Sony has this useful feature.

Rx100 has a memory recall mode with two settings as well

I loved the G15/12...but the RX100 is a far better camera. the G16 didn't do much to change the disparity between the G series and the RX series, IMO. the G series is still a good option...the RX series is just better.

Why did you have the g16 only for a short time
It's a "long story". I bought a G16 with the Canon housing, after using the much lighter S95 and already had some buyer's remorse to have to carry a "heavy" G16 around. Took some land shots on auto mode and then on a dive in Laguna. First I found the image quality no better than the S, then I found that Picassa made my RAW images monochromatic orange for some reason. I was shooting Av mode with the Ikelite AF35 strobe in auto mode.

But the cruncher was after soaking the closed housing with the camera in my rinse tank, the next day I found drops of water inside the housing. That was the last straw, and I sent the whole works back, and ordered an S120 with the Ikelite housing. Personally I think it's the better choice than the G16, because of the small, light size for land use and I saw not enough advantage in underwater use. If I were buying again I'd check out Olympus and Sony, I think they may have better image quality.

Over the S series the G have the advantage of two custom modes, and a larger battery, otherwise I could not justify the bigger size.

By the way, I would avoid the Canon housings as I've had too many experience of leaking, and stories from others. The Ikelite housing is much more robust and costs just a bit more. Only downside of Ikelite housing is the awkward zoom function.

I got a Chance to fiddle with rx100 & G16 at best buy..... For some reason I had a very hard time focusing with the rx100. I'm scared of the rx100 menus seem complex. G16 focsed fast. At the end of the day I want to take the best photo possible, crisp and clear..... So you say rx100 will be the winner

What about macro!!!! I plan to do mostly macro photography stills. I would think the g16 will top rx100 over macro... What's your feed back?

Yes, what does the Sony on macro? Also on the video "white balance". The video on page 1 is nice but a filter was used, right. What about a the usage of a lamp together with the sony or the Canon. I am like seaworm, a bit lost on this. Please help
