basic harnesses hurt like hell and dig in like crazy with doubles on..

I have a honeycomb plate in my right collarbone, which has sharp edges, and the ONLY time I've ever had any discomfort from a harness was wearing one with a T-shirt. Any exposure protection at all provides plenty of padding.

if you're happy, diver08, that's certainly what counts, but for other readers, remember to try crossing the straps. that brings them closer to your neck and away from your upper arms if you aren't as wide there as an 'average guy'. just take the one coming off the left shoulder to the right hip & vice versa. can't do this if you trimmed it, though...

Actually I'm normal size, maybe I am just adjusting something wrong on the shoulders... Mostly it is due to the fact I broke my collar bone a few years ago and if the harness isn't sitting right in the correct place, it hurts a lot. ha. Btw, I did not mean to discourage use of the basic harness.. As I said comfort is #1, if your comfortable in a basic, then by all means, dive the basic!

I dive HP130s with a basic harness without any discomfort and I also broke my collar bone.

Just curious, what size doubles are you wearing? I use 108's and don't find a harness all that bad.
