Good morning and hello!

It's nice to be part of the Scubaboard community.

I have a question and i'm hoping someone might no a bit about it. I recently had an accident in a glider which left me having to have my left ankle fused. I'm already a rescue diver but my experience scuba diving has been with two working ankles. Does anyone have any idea if i can carry on diving and what it might be like? Thanks for your help.

Hi there and welcome to ScubaBoard! :dazzler1:

Howdy!

And welcome to SB - the biggest, the best, the fastest growing, and :D the friendliest!
If you'll click ScubaBoard.com above, you'll be taken to our long list of forums, a wealth of information and resources. At the bottom, be sure to notice the Local & Singles Dive Club forums. Looks like you've already posted in the Dive Medicine forum Scott referenced.

It would help in future diving discussions if you'd complete your Profile with location - and separately - your Dive Info. You can use the Quick Links for such changes. And sizing a photo for your profile or Avatar can be a challenge; I'm a fumbling amateur, but I get the job done, if you'd like any help?

PM me if I can help you learn your way around; that is - click my username to the upper left, then follow the prompts to send me a "Personal Message." :thumb:

fused? can you gimme a bit more details?
What bones did you break (Tibia? Fibula? Tarsals? Metatarsals?)
Did you get any pins? Were you in cast? All of this is important in deducing what physical state you ankle is in. What did your doc say?

Welcome to the board.

I have dove with a fused ankle for over 4 years and it causes me no real problems, the exception being when I have to climb up a soft gravel bank or over a log etc getting out of the water.

Then the lack of bendability is a bit of an issue. I have learned a special "shuffle" step that works for me and I just have to be very careful that is all.

This especially true with stage bottles etc. I just leave them on the shore and make two trips, works out OK.
