So sorry that the diver lost his gear. That sucks....

We were doing skills practice at the local pool. I was just swimming, and one of the divers set up their gear. I asked, "You have some air in your BC, right?" They said, "Sure," and booted their gear over the side. It immediately sank straight to the bottom. They had this look of horrified shock on their face. I just looked at them with one eyebrow raised. Then I jackknifed and dove down, hit the inflator hose, and "raised the Titanic." :shakehead

Dude ... chear up! (I recently read some of your other posts) I can guarrantee you that you're not as bad as you think you are. It's a hobby, not brain surgery! Enjoy yourself, dive lots and gradually work toward your goals. You'll get there. I'm just now learning to dive steel tanks and a drysuit. I sure feel like a newbie at present, but I know it'll come with more practice. Keep your chin up!!!

What is the draft of cruse ships? I though it was about 35-40 feet (for some).

If so this would be a VERY iffy place to dive...

wow that sucks im glad it wasnt me i have way to much in to my gear. as for the person that it happend to i bet they dont do that again. but i can bet that this persons not the first and wont be the last i now a guy who lost his mask twice first day got dark so we went back a few days later found it and went to a new hole to dive and lost it again somepeople never learn

I know the general area where the op said it was lost. I would not dive there, the place is regularly patroled by the police and coast guard. Best bet would be to call it in the to coast guard or the police. I doubt they would want a cylinder down there rusting ready to blow sometime in the future. There was another post about a similar incident the crew members secured the rig and the dive company paid for replacing the gear.

Cruise ships are slow and leave at predetermined times, you can dive when they are not around, however the pesky police can show up at any time.

I'd try dragging for it. Dive only to check a possible hit. Even better if you got someone who can free dive it. What's the viz like?
