LOL, Think I may make a t-shirt with that Identifcation drawing, MSilvia. It's great! BTW we used to call you spear a Hawian sling when I was growing up in Florida, not sure if thats what they get called up here..

Thanks Matt.

Maybe I can get a dive in with you to see how you work your "tickle spear".

Here's a site http://www.state.ma.us/dfwele/dmf/Publications/charterposter@72.pdf that shows a picture of summer & winter. Although I do like yours, they look like Rodney Dangerfish.

Shellbird,

I bought the Hyperstretch today, what a comfortable fit! Now to get it wet!

Can't committ to RI this weekend, but could do a south shore dive on Sunday if anyone is interested. I don't know the (underwater) area yet, and it will be my first cold-water dive. If anyone is willing dive with me, I'm a good buddy. Let me know.

one problem was that I tried out too many new things on the first dive of the season...I had just picked up my reg from annual overhaul the day before and it was leaking medium-sized bubbles, my HP hose (computer console) was screwed into the other side than I usually wear it (and I did not notice it until after I was in the water with the other guys...I was rushing to not hold them up since they were suited up before me)....and tried carrying a pony for the first time slung on the left side of me under the armpit (so I had a hard time seeing my guages...I'll have to move the console to my right side I think) and then I had a light on my right side...Ok, you all...go on and laugh now......

so, is it stupid to use a pony shorediving???
I think I'll be fine when boatdiving with the pony, but it's probably overkill shorediving??? what do you all think???

the light I did like having in the fairly low vis....got to look into some nooks and crannies

I went back in for a second tank after leaving the pony behind and reconfiguring my console to where I normally have it and the only annoyance was the leaking second stage...I couldn't get it to stop leaking

Hi Nelson, Shore diving is great for trying new setups and gear before going into deeper situations. I just started diving with a pony recently(skipped it this last weekend) and it would have been wiser for me to have tried it out a a shallower dive than I did. Why risk a expensive boat dive if you have to abort early to due to your setup or new equipment. Not sure about having the console on my right side. I like keeping just the main reg on the right. but it is crowded over there on the left. I agree about trying to much out at once. I hate dragging a flag, carrying my camera, a catch bag and a tickel stick, all while trying to get comfortable in a cold, low vis environment. Add a few new items and your asking for trouble or at least a tough time. I saw some scuba shows from Japan recently and their setups were so deferent than i've seen here in the states. Some of their ideas looked good and I may try them out soon. Maybe on a shore dive :)
