All true and valid points, but many of us tend to name the location based upon the inlet used/boat location. Not ideal I know, but that is quite common. Your suggestion to change the title to include Deerfield and Hillsboro sounds like a good way to keep things clear.

As another example, the thread I created called Palm Beach, many of the sites we talk about are actually off of Juno Beach or Singer Island.

Yeah, I lived down in Parkland just west of Deerfield Beach from 1992 until 2014. So about 2500 dives down in that area. Kind of hard for me to think of anything north of Hillsboro Inlet as "Pompano and Fort Lauderdale", its utterly incorrect geographically. When you refer to Palm Beach, I think Palm Beach County so Singer Island and Juno Island are in the ballpark. Lumping Boca, Deerfield, and Hillsboro into "Pompano and Fort Lauderdale, are like lumping Boynton and Palm Beach into Jupiter.

In my bookmarks "Scuba" folder, I have a subfolder called "Scuba" and then a whole bunch of subfolders for all the regions I've dived that contains dive ops, dive sites, local weather sites, and other information pertinent to that particular region.

In my Florida Folder I have "FLL/Pompano" that covers all the areas mentioned in this thread.

I'm thinking most out of towners including myself don't tend to think of Boca Raton, Hillsboro and Deerfield even though we've heard the names.

Boynton definitely deserves it's own thread (or bookmarks folder) as does West Palm Beach (which includes Riviera Beach) & Jupiter.

If we're offering up potential thread re-titles I suggest making it "Fort Lauderdale/Pompano & Vicinity.

Definitely understand your point. I lived in Boca Raton from 2018-2020. This is always a challenging topic. I had to make the decision a long time ago how I would enter the location in my own dive log. I've gone with the "general location" to keep it simple even though it isn't geographically correct all the time. I tend to go with the location of the boat or the inlet primarily, but I'm not incredibly consistent.

When I was looking at SE Florida for my future diving, I dived from Ft Lauderdale to Jupiter. I decided on Boynton Beach, Palm Beach, and Jupiter and haven't dived south of Boynton since 2009. In my log, I list these 1300+ dives by the inlet used and name the operator and boat, if more than one. Of course, I call the BHB Palm Beach.

Your detailed knowledge of Florida geography is laudable but this thread is for folks who are flying in to Florida and need an easily understood land-based reference point from which to launch.

While striving for geographical precision is normally best, in this case too much detail may confuse out-of-state divers. For example, some divers want to explore the Hydro so they book a hotel near Deerfield Beach only to find their charter boat is all the way down in Pompano Beach.

Well, that’s my rationalization anyways because my edit feature timed out 😄.

I saw a couple of hunters sucking down some suds on a boat out of Jupiter last year. Obviously it was after their second dive but it was mid-day and it struck me as an odd aprés-plongée. On the Red Sea, my EU dive mates got me used to an espresso and a bottle of sparkling water.

Rather amusing you start your post criticizing another divers geographical knowledge of Florida and then follow up by saying Pompano is "all the way down" from Deerfield.

It's a 6 minute drive.

You aren't missing much.

There’s plenty to do and see here, but a lot of the best stuff is below 130’. Not everyone’s cup of tea.

Speaking of which, @NothingClever your espresso comment got me missing hot Cornish pasties and tea during surface intervals off Plymouth. That was a really nice surprise on a cold day of diving.
