1960s vintage SMG Mk. 1 speargun.
This speargun was made in the USA, not New Zealand, indicating that it is an early model.
It does not have a serial number.
It is NOT a firearm, and was not required to be serial numbered, although later models were numbered.
Well used, but has been completely restored. All parts are original, but have been cleaned, lubricated and reassembled. No replacement parts were used.
Auction includes speargun only. Replacement spears can be easily fashioned from aftermarket pneumatic or rubber speargun shafts because in a SMG, the shaft is seated into the SMG by friction only, not by a sear.
I will include a schematic of the speargun, and a copy of the instructions that would have been sold with the speargun.
Notes on condition:
-Has scratches, as shown in photos, but body is not cracked.
-Red safety sticker, originally on the side of the body has peeled off.
-Former owner's social security number is etched on barrel and on body.
-Barrel is straight, with no dents.
-Machined brass receiver easily swivels away from breech, as intended.
-Hammer cocks, safety is functional, reel is functional, trigger release is smooth.
NOTE: I have not tested this speargun in the water, and while I am confident it will work as well as when it was new, it is being sold as-is, with no returns.
