I've had my XL Quattros for 5 years...great fins but I have found they require more effort...particularly in currents and surface swims, than others experience.

I had been thinking about trying a set of Atomic Split Fins but have recently re-thought going with a set of Turtles or Jets. My first set of fins (back in the 80s) had been Rockets...not exactly a "low torque/effort" fin (make my Quattros feel more effortless).

I had sort of ruled out the Turtles and Jets thinking they were similar to my old Rockets when I recently read somewhere that they (Turtles and Jets) performed very differently (from Rockets). Is this so?

I normally dive dry and have a size 13 rock boot...this might rule out the Jets (pocket too small?). Would the Turtles and/or Jets be a less effort/less ankle torque fin?

While trying someone else's would be great, I have not found anyone from whom I could do this...so I'd really appreciate hearing other people's thoughts/experiences.

As an aside question...can anyone say if the Atomic Split Fins are stiffer than the Bio Fins or how they compare...any preferences?

Thanks very much!

The new XXL Jet Fins should fit a size 13 Rockboot without any problems. Their foot pocket is comparable to an IDI Turtle. Leisurepro has them in stock now for $62.

Thanks Boogie711.

How do the old Jet Fins compare to the Turtles performance wise? Which do you prefer and why?

Thanks!

I haven't had a chance to dive with the new XXL Jets, but they're supposedly identical performance wise to the old XL's.

You might want to try a search - there have been a few threads about them.

oh well...... as long as your expectations aren't too high you should be able to get used to it then. :cheeky:

Never mind. It was a failed attempt at a joke. I actually had a set of jetfins once (given to me) and ended up giving them away. They were too heavy too stiff and a little short on power for my liking.....at least with my old gear. Some people seem to like them and DIR makes any other choice taboo in some circles but I still don't use them.... I tried jets again when I got my new drysuit and still found them a little heavy but more suitable for my new config than the old one except for one thing......they didn't fit the boots......not even close. Maybe the XXL size would fit but I don't need fins anymore. These days I'm using Aqualung Blades II with spring straps and they're perfect....only about 150 grams negative and gobs of propulsion.

I have a few pairs of XXL Jets coming in (any day now) & will be doing a side-by comparison with Turtles. We'll be using a few different sizes of rock boots, comparing pocket width, depth, etc.

I suppose pics may be in order, eh?
