Do any of you salty folks know any FW sites in RI or maybe southern MA or eastern CT? I've never heard anybody mention them other than the CT river and one NELD, member who shall remain nameless, was sure he'd melt during his first FW dive in the area ;) I'm interested in FW sites because I was trained in a lake in VT so I know I won't melt plus my buddy and I were wishing we knew of some yesterday when confronted with 6 inch vis. Fortunately we went around the corner and found better vis. but I'd still like to know if there are any good lakes around here?
Thanks :D

I melted like the wicked-witch after water balloon fight the last time I dove in fresh water. I had to add some gelatin to myself so that I would re-solidify after that dive.

My advice is to bring a salt shaker and add it to the water before jumping in. :D

LMAO! Yeah but WHERE am I bringing this salt shaker? ;) Why weren't you out in the nice 6" vis. yesterday?

Ahh but I was out there today! For work!

As for FW sites, I don't really know of any worth diving here in RI.

In MA, there is Hathaway's Pond and the CT River.

CT has the Portland Quarry if it is open.

NH has Lake Winnepasaukee.

That's about all that comes to mind.

I was wondering about diving the Upper Mystic Lake in Medford/Arlington.
It's deep..about 80 feet and there is no motorboat traffic allowed.
I'm not sure if it's legal to dive there though.

Probably no lobsters in there though :-P

I did Hathaway's pond for one of my cert dives. Good viz, cabin cruiser, saab and dive platforms to practice skills. Around 50' depth and a nice thermocline:)

Directions: Head to Cape Cod over the Sagamore bridge take a right off exit Exit 6 (Hyannis) onto Rt. 132 and a left on Phinney lane. Hathaway's Pond is on the left.

Ok so what's in this pond? Even though I like diving in lakes I prefer oligotrophic ones because I have this irrational phobia of aquatic vegetation in large quantities. I'm also not into "the hand of death" aka fuzzy submerged tree branches. The other pond on the cape sounds cool though. What are the entries/exits, parking, disgruntled locals, etc. like at these places?

Cape pond is a diver's paradise:) parking is close to entry points, bare ground to step up equipment and entry points are easy to negotiate

The cabin cruiser is marked by a buoy...surface swim needed though..about 80yds:( Location is a recreational area open to the public....off season..no parking restrictions or fee.

When we dove the viz was @25-30 feet and no rememberable obstacles!

Let me know if you decide to go.....

Hey Gidds -
We dove Hathaway's Pond 2 weeks ago when the weather was too bad to dive anywhere else. It was awesome! If you're ever interested, you can let me know - we're closeby if you want some company.
The vis was pretty darn great, the water was very comfortable with our 5mm, and there is some funny stuff down there. Overall a very cool place.
