It's got a 35 ft cabin cruiser in it, a couple platforms, a tractor, a Saab, some trees, but a mostly featureless silty bottom below 25 ft or so. It's a good place to check your trim and propulsion techniques.

The water in the summer is in the mid 70s to about 10-15 ft and gets to maybe 48-50 degrees below that. It's a pretty pronounced thermocline, to say the least.

Thanks :D
I like the shots with the mini tractor. How did all that stuff get in there exactly?
How about aquatic weeds? I HATE aquatic weeds :yuck: I'm not fond of submerged trees either, where are those?
Fish? Snails? Crayfish? Insects?

Oh stop.........who cares about aquatic life? Did you see that tractor?!?!!? I say road trip asap before it freezes over!!!! I MUST have a pic of me on that thing....and I'm getting pretty rabid about diving....must get wet soon!!!;) :D ;)

It's under 2hrs drive to get there....approx 90miles.....ROAD TRIP!

I'd hate to disagree, but there is no possible way that it was as warm as 62 degrees at depth. This time of year, I'd expect that temperature near the surface, but at depth it would be low 50s, high 40s at the highest.

Nice pics.

Well, 2 weeks ago and the temp was 62 at depth according to the computers. Soggy was right about that thermocline!!
We have some pics of that dive online if you are interested in checking them out!

Who said YOU were coming on MY pond expedition? ;) If you'd stop being stubborn and learn to dive dry then ice dive the freezing over part wouldn't matter. Help I need a female buddy! Only guys would be THAT rabid about the lawn tractor *snicker*

Turtles? Frogs? Waterfowl?

Soggy -
The thermocline was certainly colder, but it wasn't very thick from the bottom and the temp above it was definitely 61-62. It was October 16th. We were shocked at how comfortable it was.
Gidds, I HATE weird trees and weeds too - trust me, lake dives kinda freak me out, but it wasn't anything TOO weird. No crayfish or snails that we saw. There is an eel in the pond (saw it) and there are a lot of bass and other freshwater fish. Lots of life.
I know that East Coast Divers put the boat there, and the Saab was stolen and ended up on the ice!
The tractor is SO silly!!! Definitely worth the pics!
I'm a female, and my boyfriend is my buddy, so if you wanna hook up with us, we're going dry in a few weeks, and we may do one last wet dive before the winter!!!!

I guess I misunderstood. 62 above the thermocline is totally believable. There is also usually a couple different thermoclines there. The bottom, down at 55 ft or so never gets out of the mid-40s. brrr...

There is an eel in the pond (saw it) ...

Yeah, that thing is creepy.

Given the weather and big seas as of late, I've been diving Long Pond a lot. The last few seasons there have been reports of high fecal colliform (although all from point sources running in) and poor viz. However, per the EPA guy I spoke too at the pond last Sunday - "we've cleaned it up" which he then intimated referering to have some of the abutting land owners geting their setpic systems in order.

Vis has been nice 15-20' and this a big, deep pond. Not too much to see, but it's pretty easy to get into 70' of water and it's over 100' deep toward the middle. A nice training spot.
