Great point. However, it would make loading the cylinders alot harder; increased potential for sidewall gouging/scratching.

The scratching/gouging problem could be solved by some rubber trim. I'd say it would be a good idea regardless of the orientation of the sleeves. It can be found at some hardware stores but a beter selection can be found in McMaster-Carr's catalog or Grainger's catalog. McMaster's shipping is really fast (usually next day where I am) and sells the stuff by the foot rather than the roll like a lot of places.
