Can anyone offer any information about diving in or around the Fort Wayne area. I know the Great Lakes are close, but what does the immediate area have to offer?

Thanks for anything at all.

Mike

Gilboa in OH is probably the closest thing that I know of. There is also Whitestar in OH but I am not sure the details on that one. France Park would be about 3 hours away. Other than the GL's everything else that I can think of is going to be 4+ hours away.

My sister-in-law lives near Angola and she goes to Gilboa for her local diving.

There will be a group there New Year's Day if you want to join us! I hear the water is still 45 degrees :) I'll have my 10x10 tent and a couple of small heaters to take the chill off.

Thanks for the replies. Actually, I wasn't looking for diving in the near future. The reason I posted was because I'm considering applying for a job in FW and, as you can imagine, diving opportunities have to be a part of the equation. Besides salary, work conditions, etc., I have to weigh my down tim (pun intended). For now, it doesn't look like I would be improving my geography by moving there.

I ran a test drive map from a Chevy dealership in Fort Wayne to Gilboa and came up with 1:11 drive time, that's not too bad of course I consider my 40 minute drive to work reasonable :)

Its a straight shot down one of the back rural highways.... So that 1:11 drive time can probably be done in 45mins. I'd take that route from Chicago to shave off an hour of drive time... vs. the interstate/tolls

I consider anything less than 2 hours a short trip. Use to have a dive post in town till the LDS and the owners parted company.

BTW, what back rural highway is this that we are talking about? Gilboa is in the plans for next year.

US30... Theres a few painfull points as you run through some towns and hit a few red lights - but don't see many cops and can open up above the speed limit...

Not bad. I wonder if Fort Wayne dive shops use Gilboa for training. On the map it looked further than that to me. I figured at leas 2 hrs., so that's not bad.

I would say that the Fort Wayne LDS uses Gilboa..what else is there?
