So we took the family and went to the beach at Fort Sheridan today. A bit windy but not bad. Water temperature must have been in the 40's. It look like a great shore dive. The warning sign about unexploded ammo was a bit of a concern. So what is the deal. Why are there no one diving out here? :lotsalove: I stopped by the Frogg Pond to see Keith but they were closed. I think he had a certification class. We are off to Minneapolis to Mall of America and the Underwater Aquarium for a WEDNESDAY NIGHT DIVE. We move on to Estes Park, CO for the weekend. :(

We used dive the Ft. Sheridan shore occasionally. There is quite a bit of old military junk to be found where the old piers were. I heard that divers were being prevented from entering the water from shore now but I don't know much about that. The authorities are a bit paranoid about the possible presence old ordnance and this has some validity. Unexploded shells have been found in the water here. There were plans to let a contract to clean up the area but I don't know how far that went. It sounds like they may not have liked the cost and opted for a warning sign instead.

So hows the old beach down at the Fort.
We used to go swimming there as a kid. We used to watch them shoot the big guns off into the lake.
There was a push to clean the lake front up a few years ago. I do not think it happened. Something about the cost over runs when the cleaned up the ravines.

When did you stop by the dive shop?? Kenny the owner may have been on duty at the fire dept. I live just a few blocks from the old fort. So if ya want to go diving let me know.

Hey Capt. Dale hows it going?

Thanks guys. I will contact you both when I return to Highwood later this month. I will bring my 7mm suit also. The 3mm I had this trip just wasn't warm enough.

Hey Capt. Dale hows it going?

The boat is in the water, we are diving and all is well. If you want to dive Ft. Sheridan and are not allowed to enter from shore, we can take you there by water. The local authorities cannot prevent that. We have taken divers to this site before.
