I am new to scuba, just got c-card this past Sunday. We are going to Fort Myers Florida in mid August. Where is a good place to do a shore dive safely and neat things to see?

Thanks

Glenn

the shore diving isnt so great around here... the closest thing to a begginer dive from the shore would be venice fl diving for sharks teath. Anything in the gulf you should be prepared for low visability...

There are some charters in fort myers that will bring you well off shore in the gulf for some better diving but i have heard it isnt begginer friendly. Good Luck

Well, you can dive around my sailboat! There are lots of spades, snooks, etc., around the docks but its a challenging dive with pilings and all.

Personally, I head north to Venice and shore dive or catch a ride with Capt Jaime. I haven't had a chance to ride with FL West, so I can't speak of their ride, but others who have praise it as well. :)

If you've got access to a boat (and are comfortable as an operator or a friend is) there is some great diving here thats as close as 5 miles offshore.

I love the beachs from Clearwater all the way down to Ft. Myers. Unfortuantely, when I became a diver I discovered my favorite beachs were not my favorite dive sites. So, heed the previous advice well.

If we could only put Key Largo's reefs and waters together with the Ft. Myers beachs...how perfect would that be?

Call Capt. Jamie... He's your best bet for local diving, and he'll out you onto some nice fossils - heck, you may well make some cash doing it too.

Our website is THE WETTER THE BETTER DIVE SHOP - UNDERWATER HEADQUARTERS. We go to the Keys 1 or 2 times a month for cert. diving, or over to Pompano - you're welcome to ride along. You'll find some of the nicest divers around on this forum, so we'll look forward to having you join us all!
