Is anyone interested in volunteering for the Fort Myers offshore boat races? They are in need of a lot of rescue divers and boats. Cool part: you get to sit on a boat in the middle of the race track. Uncool part: you're in full gear for duration of the race.
The date is May 19, 20, 21. If anyone is interested, let me know and I'll post contact info.

I did this a few years ago. Pretty boring job except then the air show is right over head. Post the info, I'll try to do it again.

This is the e-mail I received. We had our first meeting on March 9th. Next one is 3/22 @ laugh-in comedy club on College pkwy. 5:30-6:30 is social hour, meeting is 6:30-7:15ish.

We would love your help! Our first volunteer meeting will be held:

Thursday March 9, 2006 @

Shoe-less Joe’s at the Holiday Inn Bell Tower

5:30-6:30- Social Hour

6:30-7:15- Volunteer Meeting

If you need any further assistance please let me know!

See you there!

I sent her an email, it sounds like something I'd do once.

I'm just curious.... what type of training to they give divers before just throwing them out there? I mean surely they just don't let you gear up and go into an environment with an overturned boat with a possible "panic'd" driver caught? do they?

now that sounds like fun.....seriously

Dropped an email.. sounds fun! I think we can get a boat comandeered as well :)
Sharkbaite is trying for his. But it will be fun. Rescue divers get to experience the "dunk tank" with the racers this year.:D
