Making my forth trip to Tobe Ontario this summer but I have not been on the Forest City. Can anyone give me a depth reading on the stern, just above the railing? I'm curious of how much of the the wreck I may dive. Also how is the border crossing been at Port Huron? Always a great part of the trip.

Thanks DP

Hey Parsons; Depending on the lake level, the stern of the Forest City is about 150'. The ship hit the island bow first and settled on about a 45 degree angle. Most of the wreck is pretty flat kinda like a lumber yard until you get to the stern area. If you go to the stern and drop just behind the rail, you can still see the name across the stern, at least the last time I dove her. I've been to Toby several times, but not since the late 80's. There is a group of us heading there in late Aug. It will be interesting for me to see how the wrecks have changed since then. Of course, now you need a passport to cross over. I would imagine the traffic jam will depend on what time of day you're making the crossing. I'm sure others will chime in here soon and provide you with other more up-to-date details. Have a great, safe trip.

The border at Port Huron/Sarnia is fine. Just try to avoid rush hour traffic. Going into Canada is always faster then returning to the US. Try something different. I use the ferry crossing at Marine City. My longest wait time has been 20 minutes. Plus you get to ride on a boat which sets the mood for the four hour drive up to Tobey.

The mud is at about 150 feet. The top of the stern rail I think is about 135.

There is the number that I had hoped would pop up for the stern rail. 135' So we can just about see the whole wreck as a non tech diver. :D
That ferry cossing sounds like a very good idea. I never knew. My dive buddie has dove the St Clair river and he didn't know.
The plans are in motion.
Thanks for the replies

The engines are kind of cool... they are right about 130ft... I like the forest city a lot since you can pick your depth.... the geological stuff is amazing if the water is clear... the wreck starts at about 60ft..... slide down the hull and get to the engines... if you feel good go to the stern rail... the toilet is a unique site on the port side aft at about 140ft...

Not much to see past the railing... so dont bother too much with it. The engines are my favorite part and the places you can swim completely under it.

Our dive center (divers inc) is going there the last weekend of August... you are welcome to join us.

Thanks for the good info about the wreck. Are Dive shop will be up there the last week in July. Sorry I can't make your trip also but thanks for the invite. That is something that I always thught would be cool to do. Hook up with a new group of people and wreck dive the Great Lakes.
Have you been to Flowerpot Island? I was curious about it for a 2nd dive.
