Leaping into a RIB in rough weather, you need to remove your gear and hand it up to the crew. Something you wouldn't be capable of doing if you don't remove the regulator from the necklace.

I know you emojid one of my other replies. Here is the thing, if you think about your reply related to divers needing to get out of their gear to get in a RIB, it is entirely silly. Whether a diver is in the water trying to get back into a RIB or the diver is leaning against a park bench after a dive, in either case, when a diver needs to get out of their gear, they will need to remove the necklace. The "detachable" necklace feature has never been needed before. Diving off a RIB introduces nothing unique to the equation.

And in case you again want to ask about my diving resume, yes, I have done dives off a RIB. I have done about a dozen, about half of which were tech dives. Not that any of that is relevant. In each dive, I had to get out of my gear before re-boarding the RIB. All in all of those dives, I had a necklaced backup regulator.

LOL, it is a regulator retaining strap. I got no more ammo to discuss this. I wear my pony reg on a necklace and use an Air 2 usually. My second stage hasn't fallen out of the necklace in the last 150 dives I bet, probably more than that.

And if you can't tell the GUE thing was a joke.. well ......
Why are you giving advice in the technical forum?

I got a message from an admin that this person is not a bot. Which makes the responses all the more, um, interesting.

Interesting. There have been a few posts that made me think there's driver behind the wheel, but others still seem very bot like.

Why do you (apparently) think that I am giving advice in this thread?

If you specifically WANT my advice, I will be happy to provide a detailed one on such a critical, complex and engaging topic.

How in the hell do you make a 10 minute video about tying a knot?

FWIW, I’ve done the double fisherman’s knot and the zip tie thing; I’ve never once had either come off.

For me, the double slipknot necklace warranted about 2 replies at most. Its a nice idea but hardly necessary.

Now, the topic that has me scratching my head is, why do you have your pony reg on a necklace? Is that a common thing for solo tech diving or something? I mean, in that configuration, I can see why detachable is a seemingly desirable feature. You know, in case your pony bottle goes one way and you go another way. On the other hand, it seems to me that the problem you are solving with a detachable necklace was created because you have a pony reg deployed and secured on your neck when it is not needed.

I think EE used to sell one under the halcyon brand. Maybe they still do, I don't know. I looked at it and thought, "12 bucks for that? No thanks."

I use a back mounted pony bottle, so the best place for that reg is around my neck.

Also, while cutting the grass today, I remembered an incident from a long time ago, which is probably relevant to my current thinking on the issue.

I was diving from a large anchored boat in rough seas. I had a non-breakaway neck lanyard. I was solo diving. As I made my way to the anchor line against a strong current and challenging conditions, my tank came completely loose from the backplate. Now the tank was slamming around behind me and I was holding it with my teeth and the strong neck lanyard would have prevented me from instantly ditching the tank if I needed to.

It gave me a very uncomfortable feeling and this was not so long after being certified. I think it was that day, I decided I did not want another noose around my neck.
