I'll be going to Bonaire for a few weeks in November and expect to do some solo diving. Rec-Tech rents 27cf bottles but I prefer to mount a 19cf on my main tank for redundant air. Does anyone have advise on flying with a tank other than removing the valve?

Other than remember weight limits on bags before being penalized for being overweight and understanding that the dive shop may require a viz before filling, just remember to remove the valve

Since we have taken some liberties with this thread, I figured the least I could do is point you in the right direction

It's a little dated, but since you don't seem to be getting a ton of responses. :dontknow:

You may also want to have the thread moved to basic scuba discussions or something. Might get more attention there.

You do realize that your Pony is just going to get stolen in Bonaire by those rampant Bonaire Thieves that a few certain people keep talking about?

then you'll just be in tears....

I'd say they have been. Very thorough :thumb:.

To keep this on topic ;) I'll add that my dive buddy took his 19cu.ft pony (I think it was a 19) and had no problem. IIRC he tried to seal it with a clear film (easily removeable) to keep things out of it but I never actually saw it so I am going from memory.

I removed the valve, cover the hole with 2" electrical tape, leave both ends folded bag for easy removal as a hint to the TSA agent, and have never had a problem in many flights. I sling mine tho. Mounting on back tank has disadvantages.

You can find your non-scuba pony flying discussion here.

I've taken a 19cf all the way to Thailand.....just remove the valve, put it back on when you get there....yea, yea, I know you should get a VI but who will ever know??

No trouble for me from TSA just the added weight......don't count on anyone renting one to you, so if you really want one have to bring it yourself.

Thanks to the moderator for removing off topic postings. It would be nice if you could remove those that try to turn every Bonaire thread into a discussion of crime as well.
