Seems people need someone/thing to fear first the red Indian, then the English, then the Germans, then the Communists, then the Russians and Cubans, then OPEC, then the Asian Indian, then the extremists, then OPEC again, now the Chinese..........................

Yeah, and there are so many of them I fear they might throw the planet out of balance and the earth will hurtle into the sun.

Let's see, it is OK if the Chinese drill and pollute and ravage the planet and spew toxins into the sea but if we do it we are bad. When nobody has a job, there is no food in the pantry or fuel in your car to get to the job you don't have, laugh then. The good news is that most of us Boomers have made our money and settled our futures more or less, it will be the GenXers and such that will be scratching the dirt for a living. I wish them well. N

More offshore drilling does little at the pump: EIA | U.S. | Reuters

According to the reports I have seen it would take at least 5-10 years to see any effect on supply from off shore drilling. That won't make much difference in our current gas prices. Since it would take so long to see any results, why not work on an alternate fuel source to break our dependence on oil. No, ethanol is not the answer, but I have a hard time believing that a country that can put a man on moon within 9 years can't find a cheap, viable, environmentally friendly alternate fuel source.

It will lower prices when the Saudi's see that unless they drop theirs in a few years they can eat the oil they produce when we say guess what? No oil, well we're keeping all of our wheat. Unless of course the liberal terrorist sympathizer and friend of scumbags gets elected then we'll be paying 15 bucks a gallon.

IT DOES NOT MATTER WHO SPILLS THE OIL AND KILLS THE OCEAN! IT DOES NOT MATTER WHO DUMPS THE TOXIC WASTE IN CANALS AND COVERS IT OVER. IT'S WRONG. If someone objects to drilling by Americans in the Gulf, it does not mean we support the Three Rivers Dam Project in China.
The Red, Green, Blue, or any other color Chinese are not drilling off the coast of Cuba. This is an internet myth. It's been repeated so many times in so many places people assume it's true and has been reported in traditional Medea as true, but it ain't.
I've heard that we have three centuries of oil off the coast and I've heard that we have two years. The truth is we will not know until we do test drilling.
The problem is that the more oil we find the less we search for alternatives.
If the blockade was dropped an American company would be drilling off Cuba.

The politicians in Washington have done everything they can to get votes. If anyone wants to complain about " Our " energy problem look at who you voted for in the past 40 years and why. This country goes into react mode every time there is a crisis.
People cannot remember as far back as 9/11 and we all know who got blamed for that. Yes, let's all sit back and complain about how things are going in this country.

Along time ago someone figured out how long it would take this country to peak it's oil output. We past that date a long time ago. Then someone got the bright idea to ask him to calculate how long it would take the rest of the oil producing nations to hit their peak. Believe it or not we are approaching that time faster then was calculated.

After 2 oil embargo's and now the price of gasoline soaring, I think we really missed the boat on that one.

How much longer will we put up windmills before we run out of land to build. As far as putting them in the ocean has anyone read the papers that Ted Kennedy does not want them to spoil his view of the ocean. Sounds like politics to me again.

Nuclear power is one of the ways to go. France, Germany, Normandy, etc have successfully used it for years with no problem. This should " again " be started as soon as possible.

I shake my head when I hear on the news that we cannot drill our way out of the current problem. Sounds like a good place to start. Our automotive industry was "supposed to " make fuel efficient cars 30 years ago. Politics again interfered with that one .

Brazil does not have the amount of cars, trucks, buses, etc that we have which is why they are doing so great with ethanol.

I promise you that if the price of gas dropped to 2.50 a gallon all of this energy research will come to a screeching halt. History will repeat itself again.

So sitting on our hands and saying drilling today will not drop the price of gas today will bring THE WORLD to a screeching halt. Drilling off our shores today will give us time tomorrow to find alternative methods of energy before the tap runs dry.

So before the POLITICIANS drive us into a place where ( we are going ) we do not want to be, let Your voices be heard.

We want to move into the future TODAY, TOMORROW IS TO LATE.

This topic has brought out alot of passion :) I am glad everyone is being nice without being nasty on here. I have truly enjoyed reading and learning a few things on this post. Thankyou for making Scuba Board a great place to learn & understand!

I can see the future headlines 100 years from now. "Wind Farms Remove Energy from the Wind Causing Change in Weather Patterns which are Pushing the Earth into an Ice Age"

:rofl3:Maybe we can form a cartel with Canada, Australia, France, et al. We'll show them!

From the Khaleej Times:

DUBAI — Saudi Arabia, currently self-sufficient in wheat, is likely to start importing the grain in the third quarter of 2008 to tame high domestic prices and boost stocks, traders said on Sunday.

This post did get off track somewhat. So lets go back :) I think diving around an oil rig will be cool.
