NEW MENBER.......I'm planning on being in the Keys the first week of December. Can anyone recommend a good dive operation? How is the water viz and temperature? Thanks for the help. See you on the bottom.

Welcome.
In October my brother and I did 9 dives in 4 days in Key West. Subtropic Dive Center was great. Great staff and equipment, and best yet, the dive boats are right outside the shop.
Check out Eastern Dry Rocks ( ledges) and Rock Key (small canyons) for dive sites. Depth < 30 ft.. 1-2 days is plenty for Key West.Have fun

Dove twice in Key Largo this week with Horizon Divers, water was 79 degrees and viz was anywhere from 30-60 feet.

Did nine dives off Islamorada last week with Ocean Quest, and had a great time. We had a high pressure area move in as we got there and had four day of good diving. Thanksgiving was the roughest day of the four that I dove, with 3-4' swells but had great vis!

Completed my AOW (25 years after getting my NAUI Scuba Diver Cert) on Tuesday, and enjoyed the instruction a great deal. Figured my compass work would be easy in the clear warm water, but managed to find a spot with 15-20' of vis to practice in along the reef. (Could have done that in Lake Fenton!) but got it all done.

The folks at the dive shop have been having a bad month with high seas and lots of wind until we arrived. Had great weather and only the one day of rough water. I dove the whole week in a 3 mil shorty and was plenty warm with water temps around 80 degrees or so, even down on the Eagle on Monday.

The Saturday we left to drive back to Michigan, the wind was blowing about 30 knots and out on the reef was supposed to be rolling 8-10' or so.

Can't wait to get back to keys and dive with those folks again!

Hello All,
I just got back from a fabulous Dive Vacation in Key West. I took AOW, & Nitrox courses together and had 8 great dives in 4 days. I went through Captains Corner Dive shop in Key West and the folks there are great they make you feel like your family. Leslie the owner is great and there staff of instructors and Divemasters are top notch. The water is crystal clear and the marine life on the reefs are breathtaking. Some of the sights I saw were a reef shark, 6 nurse sharks, a spoted eagle ray, hundreds of barracuda, parrot fish, a scool of beautiful anglefish, lots of spiney lobster, just to name a few. The Dive boat is the Sea Eagle and we dove 4 different reef sights and 2 wrecks. The captain is very knowledgeable and they bend over backwards to make your dive great. They have apartments in the compound and its only 2 blocks to the boat. If anyone is looking for a great dive trip check out Captains Corner in Key west. They also do a deal for students if you take any class with them you get free equipment rental any time you go back and for as long as your stay you only pay for boat trips. www.captainscorner.com check out there web sight

NAUI AOW or some other agency such as PADI?

Why did you take it after 25 years? (or on the flip side, Why did you wait so long?)

Was it useful to you after many years of diving?

If it was just to get a card to reduce the hassle in getting Florida Key's operators to take you to the wrecks, did you consider taking the Rescue Class instead?

You have a unique perspective to add to the perennial "Should I take AOW", "When should I take AOW" threads.
