I am trying to plan a family vacation to the keys some time in Feb. Or early March of 2009. I will be with my non dive wife and 3 boys ages 6,9,& 11 and My prarents(baby sitters). I need some advise and sugestions on Island choice and town house/houses available. I will want to dive, and take dad deep sea fishing and maybe the older boys if its something they can handel. My wife and kids want to snorkel, be by the ocean and have a pool available. I want to be by great diving and be able to acomidate my familys needs. Who is a good dive operation? I know these questions are broad but I realy need a starting point.

My family and I just got back from Seabird Key, off of Marathon. Its basically a 10-acre private island for a week. It has a sailboat, canoes, kayaks, and a 19' boston whaler. Its pricy though, its about $5400 plus tax (sat. to sat.)this time a year for five people. the URL is Seabird Key a private Island rental in the Florida Keys There's a lot of wildlife, wifi, and satelite TV along with a cabana, grill, and a delicious key lime pie prepared by the owner.:D. As far as dive charters go, Captain Hook is a solid operation, but nitrox is expensive ($18!).

Marathon has a lot of nice-shallow reefs, but the number of wrecks is limited (Thunderbolt is the biggest local one). Key Largo has more wrecks if thats what youre interested in.

Look up speargirl a member on this board and a relator in the Key Largo area - she should be able to help with both lodging and activities.

Also check out CONCH REPUBLIC DIVERS VOTED #1 DIVE SHOP IN FLORIDA KEYS..2006 & 2007. They are in Tavenier, just south of Key Largo. Not only are they a great dive op, but they can also hook you up with timeshare accomodations with Ocean Point, conveniently located.

Consider Ocean Pointe. It has 2 bedroom condos in Tavernier, very close to Conch Republic and others. It has a big pool, beach and a marina. Prices are right.

If you are looking for swimming pools, salt water lake full of tropical fish, beach, jetty, marina, tennis courts, play ground,24hr security than I have what I think you are looking for. I also run Combo Pkg's with these dive centers Conch Republic, BlueWater,Silent World. They have snorkle trips/dives for your whole family and are all really close by to where you will be staying. Key Largo and Islamorada is the Dive Capital/Fishing Capital of the World. I also work with a few Charter Captains out of Islamorada for your Charter needs.

This sounds good. What Island is this on and what are your weekly rates. I will have 4 adults and 3 children. I also plan on going some time between Jan-March in 09. What dates will get me the best weather conditions, and the least crowds. I am very flexable at this time. thanks

I'll toss another vote in for Capt. Hooks! They took great care of me (and my friends that went ou ton a fishing charter) The Thunderbolt is a great dive! and there are a lot of nice reefs to see!
