Hey All:

For those interested in diving photos from dive trips out of Virginia Beach, I've posted almost 100 pictures from the 2007 season that include Bobby (RAD Diver) and I. ENJOY!

BTW, I'm "va_wreck_diver" on FLCKR.

Very nice gents...looks like a very full dive log so far!

Very cool! I've started to use Flickr instead of my own server, as I dig the map feature as well as not chewing into my own bandwidth.

I've got a few Rawlings pictures (nothing great), but will be adding more dive pictures in the near future (especially as I hit more trips, my first ocean boat dive got cancelled today due to the storm). My gallery is at http://www.flickr.com/photos/ethanotoole

I'm using a Canon SD550 Elph along with the Canon underwater housing, good up to 130ft. I'm happy with it so far, no leaks. At least now the camera is older so I can get a replacement cheap from eBay if I screw something up. Canon is cranking out new models rapidly, and every one is shaped different enough as to not fit the old housing, at least the one I have.

I had one close call... I grabbed the camera at home and threw it in the housing -- thinking I'd prep it when I got on site. Went to the quarry... but forgot to prep it. Jumped in ... looked at it at 30ft, noticed there was a bit of fog inside... and noticed there was a hair or two in the seal (the grease causes that kind of stuff to stick to it). No actual water got in, and it was fine.

Nice pictures telemonster, I use an Olympus SP-350 with an Olympus housing. I like the fact that anything I can do on land, I can do underwater.
I also had a very close call 1st time in the water, my wife set up the housing, but did not get the clips closed properly & it flooded. Luckily I took everyones advise & tried it without camera 1st. I also went without camera on the 2nd dive to make sure it was the clips. It was painful doing 2 dives in Utila without taking any pics, but I made up for it the rest of the week.
Who were you going to make your 1st ocean dive with? I see you are in Va. Beach. Andy (Drewski) & I make quite a few trips out of Va. Beach.

Awesome. What I did on the initial dive was to submerge the camera+housing just a slight bit, check to see if there was any leaks, take it deeper, etc.

I think I'm going with Patrick/bubblehead (he is on here) via Lynnhaven Dive Center. Do you normally take charters, private boat, or shore entry? Or all of the above?

Hi Telemonster:

Usually, the charters. Although lately, almost all of the operators in the area have been canceling trips due to BAD weather predictions, BAD weather or lack of interest. It can be a REAL pain in the a$s.

IMO, Lynnhaven has the best boat operation in VA Beach, you just can't beat a 60 FT FAST dive boat with a competent crew.

Anyway, are you READY to go diving?

See ya soon!

I guess all the above, but mostly we crash pre-planned charters. We do use Lynnhaven the most, they have trips to all the sites we are interested in hitting. But now that they sold their 2nd boat we will have to see how that will effect their schedule.
They will have to limit their afternoon charters do to doing a deeper morning dive makes it hard to get back to the dock, by 2pm.
