Howdy Floridians!

Another diver, a snorkeler, and I are planning to be in the Keys area for a diving vacation in July. We were wondering if there was any shore diving in the Keys (closer to Key Largo). We have no hardset plans as of yet for our dive locations, and were just wondering if shore diving was even a possiblity (Dee suggested I post this question to y'all...Dee is full of good advice :) )

As long as you have shore, you have diving. Some areas have a quick current and others don't... so be careful. But, it is all pretty much fun to snorkle on!

there is no shore diving in Key Largo worth doing. The main reefs are 6 miles offshore and patches only begin about 3 miles off. If you're in Key Largo, go on a boat trip or you'll be severely disappointed.

I hear that there are some nice bridge dives down there.

Thanks a bunch for your comments about shore diving, or the lack there of. We'll definitely be taking some boat trips...and will look for other options.

Perhaps we'll see some of ya out there :thinkingo :D

Not until you get much farther south, around Marathon is best. Also one had best be good and plan well or one will find oneself riding the tide :)
