Hi all-

We've booked our first trip to LCBR (and our first trip to Little Cayman) for Thanksgiving weekend. :D

I have a couple of questions and thought I would see if you guys could help out a bit.

1. I freely admit to being a football junkie and as a Florida State alum, would like to catch the FSU/UF game over Thanksgiving Weekend. Does LCBR have satellite TV (and do they get US broadcast/ESPN)?

2. Assuming that the answer to one of the above questions is no. Can anyone give me an idea of their internet speed? I have slingbox and it works well at just about any broadband speed (but is very poort at dialup speed).

3. We will be eating most of our meals at LCBR, I am sure, but have heard good things about Pirate's Point dining. Will they let folks who aren't staying there purchase a meal or two?

4. Any other "off campus" places to grab a bite that are recommended?

5. Transportation- What are my options for on island transportation? Bike, Cab, what else? Prices?

6. I understand that the flight from GC to LC has a luggage weight limit of 55lbs that is pretty strictly enforced. Is this a total weight limit (for instance, I carry on a small backpack on commercial flights with essentials in case of a luggage delay, does this count)?

7. Any other thoughts about what to bring/not bring?

Thanks tons in advance and I appreciate any thoughts you might have.

1) Yes, LCBR has satellite TV. I can't remember seeing ESPN before, but they probably have it. You could also go down to the Hungry Iguana, I would bet they would have it on.

2) I could be mistaken, but I believe the internet speed was not real great. Less than 36mbps.

3) Yes, you can go eat with Gladys. They will come pick you up. You have to call early in the afternoon, before two o'clock to get on the list for that evening. Call them ansd ask what they are serving that evening, and if you like it, let them know is all you have to do. You might also try the Hungry Iguana.

4) I like the Hungry Iguana. They will mix and match any entree on the menu with any vegetable and pasta/potatoe on the menu. They also have specials each day.

5) You won't be going far, no matter where you try to go. No cabs that I am aware of. LCBR has bikes for your use. You can walk most places. Perry rents cars and scooters. (Maclaughlin Enterprises)

6) Go to the Cayman Airways website for the exact explanation of the wieght rules. You get two pieces of checked luggage, no one over 50 pounds and the two can't exceed 55 pounds. Fifty cents per pound over. You are allowed one carry on, up to fifteen pounds I believe. I think a purse is in addition to that.

7) You don't need much. No fancy dressing anywhere. No fancy places anywhere. Bring a laid back attitude with you. All I bring is dive gear, shorts, t shirts, underwear, bathing suits and toiletries.

That advice will cost you two drinks at the bar!!:D

We arrive on Wednesday and leave on Monday for that trip.

Just ask Jim Henry at LCBR for our number or send me a PM with any other questions.

Two drinks at the bar it is. Thanks for the heads up and we'll look forward to diving with you.

You are gonna love it. We just got back last night from a week there. Food is good, diving is great, and the people are wonderful. Bikes are free at the resort, they just ask that you return them. As for the luggage, we had two over weight bags. They were 60 pds each  and we were not punished by the cayman airways, only by American Airways (25 dollars a bag). I also had a carry on. Have fun, we will definitley be going back!! Tina

We were there over Thanksgiving several years ago and I remember some college football game on TV. The Hungry Iguana is your only dining option outside of resorts. Maybe we were lame, but we never really left the resort except to get on the dive boat. We went to Cayman Brac in February 06 and got nailed on the weight limit on Cayman Air. When you are on the Twin Otters (the prop planes that service Little Cayman), the limit is 55 lbs TOTAL, checked, carry-on, whatever. We came over to the Brac on a 737, and the limit was two bags at 50 lbs each, a carry-on, and a personal item. We got stuck with the Twin Otter going back and had way too much baggage. It cost a lot. Pack as light as you can. You don't need any clothes other than a pair of shorts, some T-shirts, and a bathing suit. Shoes are even pretty much optional. It is totally laid-back. Dressing for dinner means not wearing your bathing suit into the dining room. At lunch, you can get away with your bathing suit.

Can't wait! I'm going to LCBR with a group from the LDS in January. Sounds like a perfect mid-winter break. I think that my anticipation is really building now as the local dive season is winding down.
How about some recent dive reports from Little Cayman?
