Well Im kind of late, but better late then Never

For those who remember I'm the Scuba novice ,who had never made a trip down south. Always dove in Fresh Cold water, never took the plane and never saw tropical fish other then Fancy guppy :eyebrow:

First We flew my wife and I with Sunwing who gave a really nice service ,Well I think since im a first timer. By really good service I mean Full hot meal (choice of 2) ,Wine and Champagne All included. same Service to go back (different meals also)

Cozumel Is a small Airport compare to Montreal (dorval) international Airport ,but you all know that.
After Crossing the so call duty We were welcome (8 travalers, the rest of the plane was drop off in Cancun) by Sunwing Rep. Real nice who took good care of his Lost customers :shakehead:

Next I was in a van on my way to The Iberostar. We made a Stop at the Wyndam (nice lobby) but I made sure to keep an eye on my bags to make sure they stay in the van.

At the Iberostar we had our first taste to AI hotel. Nice classy Lobby, Flower smell ,Immaculate floor. We check it very fast ,got our requested second floor room ,but without king size bed.I can live with that no king bed Home either (not yet)

Room was clean ,but had a moldy smell, not that bad but still Moldy. I talked to other residents and they and the smell too. Room was clean ,but had those Very very small ants all over the place. after a few days I noticed that those ants were all over the resort After all, This is Mexico.

Food was Good , never eat same twice that week. Lunch was a bit dull since one of the restaurant (main lunch restaurant) was close cuz of the low season. Otherwise it was good all around.

Diving
, When I got there I had all kind of crazy plans , dive, dive, dive, explore, go out for diner, dive, explore, shopping, ...
I learned pretty fast to live the Island Way ,SLOW with no plans :D

-So the First day, well afternoon, 2 Canadian Bacon on the beach

-Day 2 : Canadian Bacon on the beach (but I booked 2 afternoon dives with dive with martin)

-Day 3 : I was very nervous, Second ocean dive. first one went kind of bad for those who remember my Other Thread (Sea Sick like hell wanted to die). I had alot of stress Factor I knew nobody, Don't speak Spanish ,English is my second laguage, Farly new to diving, Sea sick, Ocean world is pure unknown to me, new gears only tested twice in pool, Watch over my wife which is as new as me ,but not as confortable underwater. So many elements there on which I had Low to no Controls over. I guess for alot of people the first few reasons is enough to quit, I guess I like tu suffer and trick my mind and body ,I just love Diving  You that Old Biker proverb Live to ride , die to ride. I guess for me It's "Live to Dive Die to Dive"

15 before one, DWM pick us up on the Iberostar Dock. We meet the Crew, Dm was Joshua.3 other divers was in the boat with 2 noobs who had never dive and were not certified. When I called I told them we were noobs and never dove in the ocean, But OW certified. I didnt know you could dive without certification, Only one answer went tru my mind MEXICO. Third diver had 60 logged dives.
While I was setting my gear, I had that vision of me puking all over the place, Dont get sick dont get sick. I had those Ginger pills since, Im the natural type who dont take Drugs. One of the boat crew set my wife gear and was really nice. Joshua Made his Briefing.
10 min later I was in the water. I lost my Bran New never use Yellow Cressi Snorkel while getting into the water. :11: Wow so beautifull toons of marine life this is just Unreal Unbeliveable.
5 min my wife cut her finger on coral by making bad move while trying to swim. She started to freak out since her blood turn green (low red). We always dive with slate so the novel writing began to calm thing down that it's normal that you lose the red color the deeper you go (thanks to the board camera Section). All the dive she was looking at her finger which is kind of normal since during the briefing Joshua Warn us 10 times about Fire and black Corals. 44min was more then enough for 5 air hog, and a injured finger (Very litely cut dont tell her I say very litely cut). I found a bit hard to get back on the boat. Crew helped us to get out of the Water and switch tank.
Second Dive was again Amazing for me and this time for my wife since Joshua found her a plaster and reassure her that it's was all good and just Minor cut.She was also very Surprise that Joshua suddenly started to speak A VERY GOOD FRENCH Tumb UP for Joshua. Second dive lasted 55 min. Both dive where sallow reef no more then 55Ft. Vitory for me No motion sickness

Day 4 I wanted to dive again with DWM , but felt sick in the morning so canceled the the afternoon dive. I felt weird, Dizzy. No diving for me.

Day 5 Still felt Dizzy and Lost started to freak out, I dont want to spend the rest of my vacantion felling sick.

Day 6 Sick Or not Im diving otherwise Just go back to Montreal right now.
I called DWM to book a afternoon dive No Afternoon Dive on Sunday. I went to Dressel to see of they had afternoon dive on Sunday. And booked with them. Ive read very few good review about them ,but was them or nothing. This time I would bring for the first time ever a underwater camera with me to bring souvenir.
Dressel boat was big and clean well organize even tough we were around 20 divers on the boat plus the crew. Ok no real personalize Treatment here but DM was friendly and security oriented. First Dive Palancar 74Ft 40 min for me. I realize very fast then diving and photo is much harder then I thought, second dive 55ft 44min for a Camera air hog. No motion sickness

Day 7 Today I dive again Last call we leave tomorrow. I still felt a bit weird that day.
Called DWM Close cause of El northe Strong wind Port was close. Dressel was OPEN :D Back on there big Crowdy boat. That day was bad for that, high Wind alot of divers. Current were shifting boat was going back and forth to figure out with way we will be Drifting. My DM that day Was Debora. Really nice Girl Smooth diving style with a very slow rate I like her alot , she also seems to find all the cool thing. We saw a spanish lobster ,weird animal. First deep dive 72ft 47Min Second dive 62ft 51min. Slow pace = more dive time for air hogs :D

Overall Amazing Trip . We will be back More Diving for sure ,Today I can't belive I miss 3 diving days. But still I think of this trip every day that goes on.

Here a few pictures. I had printed direction about how to set the camera underwater, but I forgot it on the kitchen table. I had to improvise with No underwater photo Knowledge. I got lucky I think.

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU who told me to make Cozumel My trip destination

Merci! Nice report - felt your joy, your disappointments and those ants! Sorry to hear about the snorkel... we'll just say that you traded it for some nice photos & experiences. All in all, an excellent start -- hope you have the opportunity to enjoy many other foreign adventures!

You did great with the camera for a first time out! No matter how long you dive or where you go, your first ocean dives are always the ones you remember as the best. I hope you and your wife get to go on another dive trip soon. It just gets better! :D

Wow! Yes, you did capture some nice shots by just "winging-it"! I could feel your nervousness as I read your trip report. Thanks for sharing it here to prove that all divers have to start out the same way.... a bit nervous. It does get easier and more natural feeling the more dives you get under your belt. I think you did a fine job handling all those new tasks at the same time plus adding the camera. Diving together will be a lifelong adventure for you and your wife. Continued safe diving to you both. Thanks again for taking the time to post your report and pictures.

Sounds like you had a pretty good first trip & ocean experience to me, and as already been said we all were very nervous rookies once. Sounds like the Iberostar worked out OK for you too, and more importantly you are already planning a return to Coz.

Nice pics for your first time and also as a new diver. You're right, it's harder than you think underwater - you're moving and the subject is moving - but you got some good ones. Glad to see you saw some good marine life. Turtles are always cool!
