Hi all,
I ended up booking a flight through CUN instead of COZ, saved me $350 in airfare. I'm now debating which route to take to get to Cozumel, bus/ferry or Maya Air. The bus/ferry is certainly cheaper, which is nice, but just wondering if anyone has some recent experience? I get in to CUN at 11:09 so I think making the 1:00 Maya Air flight shouldn't be a problem. But will waiting around get me into Cozumel that much earlier than the bus/ferry route? Will be traveling with one rolling bag and a carry-on. Thanks in advance!

If your plane lands on time in Cancun, you don't wait around too much to get your checked luggage and there isn't a long line at migracion, you could be at the ferry pier by 1 pm in Playa del Carmen. Ferries run at the top of the hour, either every hour or every other hour, depending on the date you're travelling.
So flying versus the bus & ferry trip can either save you 30 minutes, 1h30 or 2h30…
What date are you flying in ?

Buses of note at noon, 1245 PM and 130 PM. Likely ferry at 100PM and 300 PM (most likely). If you miss the 100 PM Maya Air flight the next one is 400 PM. Just know your options.

Cancun Airport to Playa del Carmen/Cozumel by ADO Bus

We have done it both ways. Or a third way. We rent a van when it is 4 or more of us. Someone out side the airport with your name on a sign. Get the van driver to stop at 7-11 or oxxo for a SOL.

We take the puddle jumper now when just the 2 of us. Arriving at 11:00ish should work out great for Mayair. I never prebook. Soon as you come out of the terminal look for the guys in the aqua shirts and white pants (Lomas) Tell them you want to fly Mayair and they will get you over to the correct terminal for free. If you are running a little short of time, ask them to call Mayair and let them know you are coming over to catch the flight to Cozumel. They may take some of your info over the phone to speed things up when you get there. It is a great little flight. Enjoy. I think the cost it $50US. So once you figure the difference between bus/ferry vs. flight it only cost you about $30US.

Of couse hanging out in Playa waiting on the ferry can be enjoyable as well.

I landed in Cancun at 11:30 on Tuesday and had no problem making the 1:00 flight. I easily found the Lomas guy and he arranged transportation to Mayair. I was thirty pounds over the baggage limit but the check in clerk waived the fee. The flight was fast and incredibly easy. I will do it again next time.

Personally LOVE maya air. Wouldnt do the bag drag again. Just check which flights you can make.

We did Mayair for the first time on the way back this trip. It is a fabulous flight. They said be there an hour early, but I watched people show up like 10 minutes before the flight. I still might take the ferry on the way down. I use a transfer guy who has got me some good deals and I really like a nice ferry ride. It is like the decompress and switch to Coz mode time. Get a cervesa and sit outside and watch the island get closer. Going back though, I like the idea of a 15 minute flight.

And going back you know that you will be able to be at the airport in time for the flight! Its a good idea to do it that way...

Don't know about maya air. My experience on return flight from cun airport is allow allow plenty of time, 2 hours, to get through security. If for some reason you are running late, find a airport worker and tell them time is short and they may escort you to the front of the security line. They did for us. Cun is alot bigger and buisier than Coz.

Now we were there early, but the Lomas travel guy working for Mayair took us from the van to the front of check in and around the line, not that there were many people there. For Mayair, you don't go through security in CZM until you are actually boarding. There is no security to get in the small waiting area. They are around the left side of the airport in general aviation. Guys just walked in the door, showed ID and checked bags. The boarding passes were laminated reusable cards.
