Hello,

On May 8th I leave for my first trip to Grand Cayman! I'll be staying at Morritts on the EE. I'm wondering if anything special is going on that time of year.

1. Conditions (weather, Vis, water temp, current) Is May a good time to dive here?
2. Special creatures (fish, mammals, lobster)
3. Any special equipment I might need other than the usual tropical diving.
4. What to do at night on the EE. I'm not looking for a crazy nightlife but something interesting would be nice.
5. Is there good snorkeling off the beach where I'm staying?.... I plan to be in the water pretty much all day.

Any input would be great.

I'm going with my Father and S.Mother (both divers). And I'm sure at night I'm going to be pretty much by myself. Are there any good small safe local bars on the EE?

Any info would be spectacular!

I don't think you can go wrong with diving in Grand Cayman specially on the East End.

There's really not too much "action" on the East End except for the Reef Resort bar. There's a bar at Portofino's Restaurant, which is about a mile or so west of Morritts, but that place is pretty quiet even when it is full of people. Your best bet is to drive up to Kaibo yacht club as there seems to be some sort of nightlife there. Other than that SMB is always a sure bet but that's a good drive back to Georgetown.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy yourself and always stay safe. :)

Stayed at Morritt's in October. The bar/restaurant there seemed like the most lively place on the EE. We drove up to Rum Point one afternoon - that was fun (lunch/drinks on the beach) but don't know what it would be like at night. The manager's reception was a zoo, way too many people in the little bar upstairs (because of weather) all trying to get there 2 free drinks and win
a giveaway. If you have the use of a car I'd say drive over to SMB (about an hour) for the night
life, at least a couple nights anyway.

For diving, I'd highly recommend diving with Ocean Frontiers (located at the Compass Pointe
resort 5 mins from Morritt's) if you haven't picked an op yet. Great dive op, great people - Ellie,
Neil, Sam, Britta were all awesome - the three tank safari on Wed including the Stingray City dive
was a blast. I've seen lots of less than great reviews about the Moritt's located dive op (owned by Red Sail). OF has a small shop/desk in the Reef Resort next door to Morritt's where you can sign up/check in the day you arrive. Take your gear down to Compass Pointe (where the OF boats go out from) your first day and you won't need to worry about it again till after your last dive.

The beach at Morritt's is nice, we never snorkeled though. If the weather is nice the bar at the end of the pier is a great place to relax.

Hope this helps.
