Hey all.

I am an avid snorkler who is looking to trying scuba diving for the first time. I saw that they have "discover scuba" at Chankanaab Park that is offered by multiple operators there. Can anyone recommend which one to use?

Thank you

I think Chankanaab is a great place to do Discover Scuba because the facilities are very nice. The washrooms and change rooms are clean and staffed, there are lockers and showers, there’s a restaurant and lounge chairs. And after your scuba experience, you can do more snorkeling. One con is that you must pay the park’s admission fee but I thought it was worth it. This is where I bring all my friends who want to Discover Scuba. It’s a pleasant and relatively benign environment to do so.

I recommend contacting Gilmer Helguera via Facebook. He’s the owner of one of the shops there. He’s very responsive to FB messages.

Eduardo is very zen and patient. He made us very comfortable in the water. He has a very good manner of teaching the skills you will need.

If it's the same Eduardo that did my resort dive 14 years ago, another vote for him. Amazing example of great instruction.

He’s been there forever.
