Not sure if this is the right place, but I did my first night dive last night and it was the most amazing experience i have had so far. I was almost giddy afterwards. Everything just seemed so much more calm and peaceful at night than it did during the afternoon dive we did earlier. hopefully this is something I can do more often when I return to hawaii.

My wife and I did our first night dives last April. It won't be our last. Glad you had a good time.

Night dives are another world.

When I lived in Jeddah my accommodation was next to a marina and I had many wonderful amazing night dives there on a weekly basis, looking for amazing macro subjects under the jettys and no boat traffic to cause problems.

Night dives are incredible and open up a whole new world. I agree with you that it can seem more peaceful and is just a different experience. Glad you got to have the experience and I wish you fun in future night dives. I know there are plenty of places that have eflourescence - some more than others. I was surprised that almost everywhere I have dived at night in the Carribean it seems there is a little. Take a tiny break, stay stil, and move your hands around quickly. It's pretty neat if you see it. I've seen it as far north as Seattle and down in Bonaire. It might not be as much as in other places but try it out. You may be surprised.

I did my first and only(so far) night dive last August during my advanced certification. Of all the required dives, that one worried me the most.
After all the dives were done, the night dive was the most enjoyable, stress free dive of the group.
Can't wait to do it again !

I'm glad you experienced the peacefulness. Many people are too nervous to enjoy the peace a night dive brings. I find I can focus more and I'm so at peace when my whole world is that little dive light in front of me. Plus, the creatures that come out at night are amazing!

My first night dive was not a good experience. Everybody said "everything comes out at night". Well, nothing came out that night. :depressed: Since then though I've done other night dives at they have indeed been extra special.

By the way I've also noticed that a brighter light is not really an advantage. In fact, next time you might try turning off your light for a few moments. It's an interesting feeling.

Agreed, I try to carry my light head on my palm and cover it with two fingers unless I need to call my buddy's attention.
