Not sure if this is the right place, but I did my first night dive last night and it was the most amazing experience i have had so far. I was almost giddy afterwards. Everything just seemed so much more calm and peaceful at night than it did during the afternoon dive we did earlier. hopefully this is something I can do more often when I return to hawaii.

My first night dive was one of the best experiences I've ever had doing ANYTHING. I was euphoric. It was better than sex.

I almost hate to say this but... you're doing it wrong.

My first night dive was not a good experience. Everybody said "everything comes out at night". Well, nothing came out that night. :depressed: Since then though I've done other night dives at they have indeed been extra special.

By the way I've also noticed that a brighter light is not really an advantage. In fact, next time you might try turning off your light for a few moments. It's an interesting feeling.

we did turn the lights out for a few moments, but the visibility was maybe good at best so we kept them on for the most part. I think that helped too with putting me at ease for this one. the next few weeks until I get home to hawaii are going to drag since doing some night dives is all I want to do now haha

We did our first night dive in September. It reminded me how I felt after doing my very first dive, coming out of the water with huge grins!

It takes several minutes for your night vision to acclimate to ambiant light and only a flash of white light to screw it up, so don't plan on using lights if you have some ambiant light to work with, and use a red filter on your light to protect your night vision. A low power diffuse light is my next alternative.

I may be old, but I’m not dead yet.

Congrats!! I am a huge fan of night dives ever since my first on a Liveaboard in the Northeast Caribbean in 2011. I was quite nervous about it at first, but as soon as we dropped onto the reef I felt so relaxed and happy! I feel so much more relaxed at night because I only have to focus on what's at the end of my light beam, instead of whipping my head around and worrying about what I might miss on a regular daytime dive. Night dives are definitely my fav now!

It wasn't my first but my favorite night dive was last September on the Zion Train with the Goliath Grouper. I also really like twilight dives. I have heard that dawn dives are also very special but never seem to be up that early on a dive trip!

Night dives in Puget Sound are only a little bit darker than day dives . . .
