I stopped by Morrison last fall to check it out even though it was blown out......there wasn't a single person there.

Fast forward to last weekend: the place was packed to the gills. I found a parking spot and geared up but had to find another diver to help me with my semi dry(pain in the butt to get zipped) it was after 3:30 by the time I made it to the water and I haven't sweated that much in a long time!

The 15ft vis was expected so I made my way past the swim platform and dropped down. I just made my way around the basin saw a few Sunfish and small bass. Mainly I was concerned about working on my trim and bouyancy. There were a few other divers but not many in the water at one time. I made my way down to the entrance of the cave a stuck my head in the flow and made my reg free flow a little :) not long after that I watched two divers go into the cave but did not run a line so I'm sure they weren't cavers.
I did poke my head into the "cavern" to the right of the main cave entrance all I could see were eel heads and it looked like a dead end from what I could see without going in.
I surfaced and dumped some air to drop my cylinder to 500psi to do a weight check and headed home.
The locals were intresting that's all i'm going to say!

Get there at, or before, 8AM if you want to see how pretty it can be... Otherwise, the traffic kinda taints its beauty.

Two weeks from today I will be back over there for a intro to tech course with Rob Neto. I'm sure will be able to see it untainted.

It will be much better on a Thursday and Friday! :D

While you're probably right that the 2 divers weren't cave divers, a line isn't necessary at Morrison. There's a rope that starts just under the overhang, probably just to the left of where you poked your head in and runs all the way to the back of the cavern. Even trained cavern divers won't run a line there usually unless they are practicing line skills.

There was a green rope but it looked like it had been cut because there was a loose end flapping in the flow.

Morrison is stunningly clear if you can get there before traffic starts murking up the water. I still remember the first time I stuck my mask in the water... and the first time I accidently knocked a bunch of silt down the hole and murked up the water :shakehead:. The bottom near the cave entrance is covered in thick silt. If you aren't careful the current will push you into the side and it's really easy to make a huge mess quickly because as the silt falls into the cave it gets pushed back up into the water by the currents.

Yea I noticed everthing had a layer of silt. There must have been about 1,000,000,000 snails crawling around too!

That's the one. It's been like that for some time now. It does go into the cavern, tie off to another rope that goes down to the bottom. There's also a chain in there.
