Which boat are you going on, they have 3 in their fleet? If you're going on the Truth boat Cap't Graham is good but watch out for the cook Dennis he's a real A-hole & sometimes the crew isn't good either. The Conception has a good crew, I haven't been on the Vision yet.

The Vision ROCKS! Our LDS does a multiday every summer, and it has always been a fantastic trip, even when conditions don't cooperate.

Here's what you should know:

I don't care what marine biologists think...kelp is a conscious entity and if it doesn't like you or senses fear from you it will attack. If it likes you and you are unafraid (but not cocky) it will move out of your way :D.

You will have a great time. Truth Aquatics is a first class dive operation and the accommodations are great. The crews on the boats are well versed in the areas you will dive, the food is incredible and they will cater to your needs!!! I think they are the best operation in the southern half of CA and I dive a great deal. Just came back off the Vision diving Big Sur! As said before, keep your gear tight. Save some air so if you surface away from the boat, you still have some to head back down to about 15 feet and get past the kelp. If you are on the surface, you need to paddle on your stomach. If you get stuck, ask your dive buddy for assistance. The Vision has a nice RIB that they will send for you if you are in trouble of if you just want assistance. Oh, if you are used to being led by a divemaster, think again, Truth Aquatics let's you dive on your own pace. They actually treat (an expect) you to be competent. Enjoy your trip, and if you are a hunter, take your gun and have a great time. If you hit San Miguel, go for the lingcod and look for halibut in the sand!!! You are about to dive on the best boats in the area and CA diving is awesome!!!

That is quite a recomendation. Thank you. I have yet to read a negative comment about Truth Acquatics. I admit I was unsure at first about how good an outfit it was as I had nothing to measure it against. All of my diving so far has been in FL with Silent World and others like them.

Since you mentioned it's your first live aboard, a few more comments. Don't forget hangers for your wetsuit and other neoprene items. And make sure to write your name all over those hangers, as they can disappear. And ear plugs for sleep time can be helpful if the sound of others snoring will keep you up ;)

You may get some different points of view and good info if posting in the NorCal section about Truth Aquatics Channel Islands trips.

We have been on all three boats and had a great time.
