If I want to go to Hurghada for a dive vacation, are you recommending using these people there? Even for a non-German-speaking person?
I don't speak German, but had no language issues with James & Mac. They always did their briefings in both languages. Their daily boats weren't exactly new or state of the art, but definitely seaworthy and they seemed a well-run operation. They were also very kind in lending me a poncho from their gift store when I turned up without a towel (I hadn't checked into the hotel yet, so I couldn't get one). My vote goes to them, too.

in Hurghada go to the BIG or 'walking' marina - food is generally good there. Grill & Chill and the Moon are the good value for quality food places we always visit.

As others have said, in Hurghada specifically, stay away from the Quad tours and Camel Rides etc. its all crap.... just sit by a nice pool or look for a boat which will take you snorkeling, would highly recommend White Dolphin diving center (contact Tati)

Would also highly recommend taking a Garmin Inreach with you, some crocs, a nice hoody or better yet a dryrobe as Egypt starts to get windy come November and being on the boat can be cold.

Looking online, every trip seems to get back at 4pm-4:30pm, which is way too late for what we want. I guess we won't be diving that day lol. Too close to departure time
Newson Bijou in Hurghada comes back earlier (about an hour as they leave port at 8 and not 9. Carefull though if port authority delays stuff then it all falls apart. Also James Mac is NOT the boat you want.

Hey There, Just did a LiveAboard with Amelie Adventures in August! My only regret was not doing a longer one. I plan to go back to hurghada to do another one, however - and this was my second time to Egypt & Hurghada, first time doing a LA.... I will not be doing anything landside. I've already done the other "things" to do in Egypt, which are best done on a tour with a reputable provider.

Why? Scams are abundant and Hurghada just isn't a very nice place to be unless you are there to dive. My recco would be to stay close to the airport in one of the resorts before and after your LA, and perhaps go for a spa day at a hammam or just relax.

If you use uber, make sure you have the passcode feature enabled and make sure to have the driver show you the passcode from the app. Better yet, use the app that's popular there, which is Careem. Much better experience than Uber in Egypt. Otherwise you will get into a car that LOOKS like your uber, which is in fact a scammer who will take you to your destination but demand cash, and an exorbitant price at that.

There's literally no point in going to downtown Hurghada, it's a mess. Stay in the modern resort village by the Airport, which is where most of the LAs depart from anyway - the Marina downtown may be used by some companies but most moor their boats offshore and you get to the boat by Zodiac. I'd confirm this detail with your operator.

I absolutely loved diving the Red Sea, with the Carnatic wreck dive being the highlight of the trip. You'll have a great time, but the best time will be had by getting in, relaxing at a resort, getting on the boat, relaxing at a resort, getting out.

I would advise staying away from the camel rides, if any are on offer. The poor beasts are often flea-ridden and the last thing you want is to board your boat with a few uninvited "friends" with you.
Won't these unwelcome friends drown on the first dive?

Exactly!! Hotel, diving liveaboard, and then go home.

One note: Cars don't stop for pedestrians crossing the road there. You are on your own.
