Just wanted to report on my wife and my first dive trip. We just retured from 7 days in the Florida Keys. This was not only our first dive trip but our first time to the Keys. To say it was fantastic would be an understatment.
We arrived in Maimi from Portland Oregon and rented a car, and drove own to Key Largo. We stayed at Amy Slates and were very happy with both the resort and the quality of the staff. The only part of Slates that was very weak was the included breakfast.
We were both new divers and Steve Campbell, one of the dive masters was fantastic in teaching us and showing us around. We took a peak performance buoyancy controll class from him that we found to be very usefull. We made 12 dives in 4 days and would have loved to have done another 12 if we had had the time. A couple dives we were sent next door to the Aquanut Boat, and found that to be very enjoyable.
We swam with 5 foot Barricuda's, more beautifu fish than we could imagine, and at the French Reef we ran into 2 Reef sharks and 2 Nurse sharks..... let me tell ya, that seeing sharks for the first time gave us a rush. We did the Benwood a couple of times, North Rocks, something called Sandy Bottom, the Wench, and when we got to the Christ Statue, we got sidetracked following a 6 foot ray, and never did see the darn statue. All and all it was a great first expirence.
We then drove down to Key West and spent a couple days playing tourist.
We leave for Thailand in late October for a three week tour, and have booked a week on Phi Phi Island and will be spending 6 days diving. Then in February, I will be taking my son down to San Carlos Mexico. for a long weekend of diving, and on April 12th we have booked a week trip on the Aqua Cat.
You might say we are HOOKED !
