Let's just say we get the government we deserve.

I don't have a problem with people keeping captive-bred salt water fish. But when a guy at my job heard I was going to Cozumel; made some joke about me smuggling back some fish for him; and then proceeded to tell me all about his salt water aquarium, I wanted to punch him, or steal his children and keep them in a cage.

The only explanation is that the masses are truly into self-gratification without concern about the consequences.

I did not see the story NBC aired on Sunday, but I watched local news at 6 and they had almost the same story.
As O-Ring said “what a weird society we live in.”
Any ways, I took Doof advice and mentioned to my son that the divers actually rescued NEMO when they saw him swimming out of his area and my son accepted that.
Thank you all

How anyone viewing that movie can go out and buy a clown fish is totally beyond me... until I think of the students in my classes who let the entire lesson fly over their head.

Well, whereas a person is smart, the masses are as a rule, complete idiots. This is why I have no sympathy for people who get hurt while doing something amazingly stupid.

We were in California this month with the kids, and we took them to see Finding Nemo at the El Capitan theater in Hollywood - it was great!
As usual, Disney sends many mixed messages, but the bottom line is that we humans are evil:D .....

Oh well, I can live with that.

I looooved the little green crab that got away from the seagulls... the ninja move & sounds he made are still making me laugh!

I loved the movie...although I was hoping for a bit more positive image for divers. But how else would they have gotten Nemo on land? I think they probably just considered the plot, and not the consequences. It wasn't that bad...I can get over it.

As for kids...they need to understand that not everything they see in movies is based in reality. I would suggest overloading them with Discovery Channel and National Geographic channel. The IMAX idea was a good one too. Kids need to know what's real and what's entertainment.

Me and my dad used to go round and round because he hunts, and I hated it. He used to say that responsible hunters and fishers help pay for conservation...I just couldn't see it. I was 13 and hitting my parental protest full speed. Now I see things more his way...although I still don't like hunting:wink: .

With this in mind, remember that your son will grow and things will change...just don't drive each other crazy in the process!

Funny this should come up since just this week I was at my local Salt Water aquarium shop and I asked if sales of "Nemos" have gone up since the movie.

His answer was a resounding, "Cant keep them in stock they are selling so fast. Tomato Clowns AND Perculas."

In a previous thread some one mentioned that there was one particular point in the movie that only a diver would notice...pretty sure the refference was to the danglies?

If it's any consolation, most clown fish sold in pet shops are bred in captivity. AFAIK, they and the sea horses are the only salt water fish easy to breed in tanks.

Mello-yello, that would certainly make me feel better if the clowns were captive bred... as long as it didn't mean capturing more adults so they could breed faster to meet demand.

Hello,

The sad fact is many divers DO destory the reefs, just look at the resort spots that's overdove.

In the marine aquarium world there are more things bred in captivity than clownfish. See also inland aquatics list of tank raised fish.
