I'm newly certified, and am realizing that scuba is a sport that you REALLY have to want to do. With all the equipment, and training, and getting to the beach, and finding buddies...Not the easiest sport.

Anyway, I've got everything covered (even bought all the equipment) except the finding buddies part. I joined a local club, got on the buddy list, and have had no takers so far. It's a BIG list by the way. I REALLY want to get back in the water (practicing in my pool at home gets old real quick), and aside from starting my advanced class this weekend, I don't have any opportunities for just fun diving.

A question: Do many experienced divers not want to buddy up with a new guy?

Update your user profile with info so that users can see where you are. I dive with new guys. I'm in Atlanta GA.

Make sure you check out the club sections near the bottom of the main page. You will certainly find dives going on in your area. Best way to meet a bunch of great divers is a ScubaBoard Club function!

Also putting your location in your profile helps others in your area to identify you as a possible buddy.

Yes and no. I've seen experienced divers jump at the chance to help
and also want nothing to do with a new diver. I'm also still fairly new. I got OW certified in April and now have AOW and about 20 dives logged.

I see you live in Upland. There is no ocean there. Where do you dive? If you are interrested in local beach diving in Redondo Bach and Palos Verdes send me a PM. There is a beginner friendly group here that dives at least every week some times more. I've heard of a few others groups too

Try posting this question to the So Cal group

Like I said, you have to really want to do scuba...I make the hour long drive to the coast, or down to Long Beach and then the 1 hour boat ride to Catalina.

I'd love to do dives in Redondo or Palos Verdes. As a matter of fact I'm doing my first AOW dive on Monday at Redondo. As far as sending you a PM, I will. As soon as I figure out what a PM is. Private Message I guess?

If you are driving to the Los Angeles area then definitely check out the California Kelp Divers SoCAL section of this forums under Clubs (bottom of the opening page list). Also check out http://www.sandeaters.org. They are NOT a dive club. Just an internet site with a calendar scheduling a dive for every Sunday some place between Laguna Beach and Malibu. They also have a mail list you can get on that will let you know when someone wants to dive a different day or location and is looking for a buddy, or you can sent out a message looking for a buddy.

You can also send me a PM (private e-mail, just click on my name to see my profile and then e-mail me.) to set up a dive. I try to dive someplace every week. The only limitation is the wife and work (self employed so not a major problem).

An hour to the coast and another hour+ to catalina isn't bad. A week ago today 4 of us treked from Yuma to boat dive on catalina then back to San Diego to spend the night before heading back over the mountain (4160 ft). No diving in Yuma but 2 1/2 hours to San Diego - 5 hours to Ensenada Mex. You have it pretty good.

40 minute drive to airport, 1 hour wait, 2 hour flight to arrive, 30 minutes to hotel, 5 minutes to dock, 10 minutes to dive site,....... aaaaaaahhhhhh Cozumel

The send a PM (Private Message) just click on the person's user name.
but you can send direct e-mail to me at chrisalbertson90278@yahoo.com if you like. The advantage of PM is that some people don't like to put thier e-mail address on a place like this.

I started diving recently also and it does take a litle while to get to know some other divers but then after a while it kind of "snow balls" and you find your calendar full for many weeks out.
