Scuba board has been a great resource for me over the years and I finally made an account! I’m a land locked newer diver that started renting and quickly learned that not all their gear is well maintained. I started by buying, assembling, and customizing a DGX BPW. Then I picked up a Deep6 regulator. I’m pretty sure my equipment preference is the simple, reliable, self-serviceable zone.

It has also been a great resource for traveling. My household also likes to DIY our traveling so forums like this are invaluable.

Ha that's great good choices keep em coming enjoy.

DIY travelling ha ha ha ha ha I love it, me too ha ha ha ha ha

I’m loving my Deep6 regs, and i planned to take class, but got too busy with work to go to the class . I just send the regs in for service so far.
Do you do local diving? Where do you plan to travel that you’d service away from home bench? I know part of course is buying a few specialty tools , so i would have to travel with tools to service on trips.

While technically possible, my local diving is pretty unappealing.

My desire for self-serviceable is multifactorial: I like knowing how things work, that something is done right, fiddling with stuff, and being able to handle my own quick fixes. In the past, I've been hung out too dry too many times by companies with poor service, no parts availability, long turnarounds, etc. I'm not opposed to sending it in for service, but it's important to me that I could service it and can get parts for the foreseeable future.

We travel to a wide variety of places (instead of returning to the same destinations) so I'm not too concerned with sticking with locally supported brands. In the past couple years we've been to Mexico, Azores, Thailand, a few Caribbean islands, Florida, South Africa, and have Fiji lined up. My plan is to show up with equipment in good working order and hope I don't get hit with the replacement-at-destination tax. I usually travel with a small tool kit for all my hobbies; if the tools aren't large I could bring them.
