I finally went and dove yesterday for the first time locally this year. We did 3 tanks off a boat at our favorite secret Plymouth spot, the Honey Hole .
Temps averaged about 55, although I saw 50 for a short time. I didn't wear enough of a base layer so I was a bit cold after squeezing 90 minutes out of my first tank. It was low tide, so we only saw 25 fsw max. We took 16 bugs between the 3 of us (yeah, Lobsterman, there's still honey in the hole), and had the usual encounters with bigger bugs that retreated into deep hidey-holes. Lots of just-unders, no softies, no V's or eggers. Overall, not as many bugs as typical mid-summer yet, but still encouraging. Saw some big tautog and almost had a nice doormat flounder, but I floundered while removing my knife and he swam off.
Had some drama with the engine failing for a while on the way back. Turned out to be some water in the gas. Luckily there's a purge on the fuel separator or we'd have been looking for a tow.
For next weekend's adventure we'll be exploring some potential scallop beds.
