I finally went and dove yesterday for the first time locally this year. We did 3 tanks off a boat at our favorite secret Plymouth spot, the Honey Hole .

Temps averaged about 55, although I saw 50 for a short time. I didn't wear enough of a base layer so I was a bit cold after squeezing 90 minutes out of my first tank. It was low tide, so we only saw 25 fsw max. We took 16 bugs between the 3 of us (yeah, Lobsterman, there's still honey in the hole), and had the usual encounters with bigger bugs that retreated into deep hidey-holes. Lots of just-unders, no softies, no V's or eggers. Overall, not as many bugs as typical mid-summer yet, but still encouraging. Saw some big tautog and almost had a nice doormat flounder, but I floundered while removing my knife and he swam off.

Had some drama with the engine failing for a while on the way back. Turned out to be some water in the gas. Luckily there's a purge on the fuel separator or we'd have been looking for a tow.

For next weekend's adventure we'll be exploring some potential scallop beds.

Yak, I have been wondering what you had/have been up too!! Hadnot seen you posting recently. Figured work was getting the better of you!!

I have a few planned Monday's off in Late July and early August so if the weather and tides workout perhaps we could meet for a lunchtime dive at brant rock or even try Minot.

Hmmmmm, had the family out in the boat for some fishing out of Plymouth Saturday. Saw 4-5 boats w/dive flags. Mums the word though. ;) Just got back from a fishing trip out of Scituate this am. Was down to North River and up to Minots. Water still seems a bit murky after all the rain we have had. Bit colder too, 54 degrees at the surface according to my fishfinder.

oh, i to have seen less bugs that the last few years. Anyone know of any enviromental conditions as to why?? I was curious if the incresed striped bass population was going to have any effect on lobster counts. perhaps a late molt of something....

We were the only dive boat in our vecinity yesterday, although I've seen others before. Our viz ranged from 10 feet to almost 30 feet.

I'm up for a dive in "the aquarium". Hopefully it warms up before then. Minot would be great too, but you have to have a parking spot in mind.

Hey Jack, nice to hear from you. Glad you guys got out for the first time this year. I know...the Honey Hole...blah, blah. I didn't get any there last year, but I'm always willing to try again this year:D . Good luck with the scallops. I'll be diving with Matt S. off of Minot's this Friday and Saturday. If I see any lobsters or scallops, I'll be sure to send them your way. We still haven't done that nite dive @ BR yet have we?

See ya 'round...
