I finnaly compleated my intro to cave course in Mexico this thanksgiving, but I was wondering if anyone can give me a tip on some good caves here in FL I know of a few incl'd Ginnie Springs, my dad and I plan on heading up to cave country this weekend.

LOL, you're in for a wild ride if you did your training in MX.

Lots of stuff are blown out right now, so the list is shorter than normal... Check out Ginnie/Devils, Peacock, and maybe Manatee Springs.

Most of the stuff along the Suwannee and Whithalahoochee are blown. Apparently the Sante Fe is good to go, panhandle is good to go as well(for the most part).

When things get blown (say this time of the year), how long do they stay blown? I guess it depends but is there any pattern to the places you mention, for example, and to the regular level of blown-ness?

Depends... and I'm not familiar enough with the "cave country" sites to make an educated guess. I'm far braver with panhandle sites - LOL.

I do belive that the devils ear is on the top of my list, I am going to try to get some pics from the entrance looking up if I can manage to keep the camera still with that flow, but my dads friend is a Cavern-extended range cave instructor, and my dad said something about him takeing us on a guided dive so I guess we might get to do a couple jumps, but anyways Can you reccomend any cool or intresting rooms/tunnels in the ear? most prefferd little or very course silt, since my dad is only a OW diver with 23 dives since 1986.

Are you ****ing serious?

Your dad has no business going into the ear at all even with a guide. THe only place he can go is the ballroom which is a cavern. He is not even allowed to carry a light. If anyone gets caught taking him into the ear you all stand a good chance of getting thrown out and rightly so. And just what is a cavern extended range cave instructor? Never heard of it. I'm not a cave diver but at the show I attended last weekend there were several full cave instructors and a cave instructor trainer talking about the kind of things you are thinking of doing. You really need to post this topic just as you have stated it over on the deco stop. My question is why are you willing to risk your dad's life in this manner because that is just what you are doing. And with intro are you even allowed to go off of the main line? Better get answers to these questions. I certainly hope you are not thinking of taking dad in on a single tank be cause he is not allowed to use doubles in Ginnie.

With a cavern instructor, an OW diver could technically go in the ear for a (very short) cavern dive if the instructor takes him as a student. However, there was sooooo much more wrong with the idea than just that part :shakehead:

You just took intro. As a start, what are the five rules of cave diving?
