To the surprise of, well, nobody really, allegations have emerged that the state of Qatar may have bribed various members of FIFA's executive committee to vote for it as host of the 2022 World Cup in place of the USA.

Of course, one needed a good reason to vote for a country with no suitable sport stadiums (it will have to build them all), summer heat of around 120 degrees (it says it will air condition all stadiums), and only enough hotel rooms to accommodate approximately one third of the anticipated visitors for a World Cup (it says it will build more). It turns out that US$1.5 million is a pretty compelling reason.

FIFA's previous approach to allegations of corruption has been to expel anyone who alleges that it is corrupt. We'll see what they do this time around.

so, which is worse, a corrupr governing body (soccer), or corrupt participants (pro-cycling)? I give up on having any interest anymore in professional sports. They all disgust me.....
